Here’s a giant carpenter bee on Vision In Pink - this is going to be an inspiration for a page in a children’s book I’m writing. about the land and the animals here. I will be illustrating the entire 74 page book. It’s quite an undertaking but the iris will be featured on a few pages along with this silly bee!

One of my favorite colors in iris is orange. Maybe you can tell by Penny Lane there in my profile photo. 🙃
I was looking through my collection of orange selfs, near orange, orange blends, and even some peachy tones. Here are some of my favorites! But certainly not all… 🍊🧡
Oddly enough, you won’t find any orange in my house 🤣 just in the garden!
Which one is your favorite? Show me a photo in the comments of the orange iris you grow I should add to my field!

Here’s a post that’s just for my historic iris lovers! We go back to look at some beauties today from different decades! Some not too far back, just the late 80’s -and then further back from there. I do have a good range of historical iris here but I tend to like ones that are flashy. Which one of this bunch is your favorite?

I had the great opportunity to take a little drive out to Landers CA today to visit Gubler Orchids with my daughter.
We were very impressed with the varieties of phalaenopsis orchids they had blooming currently in their greenhouse gift shop.

The orchids were beautiful and they definitely had variety I don’t normally see in the markets. It was difficult to limit my purchase 🤣😂
My kitchen window has some much needed color now while my other orchids set up their blooms. (I was on the hunt for a yellow one today)

Gubler offers tours of their greenhouses for $5 a person but you must have on closed toe shoes for safety. ( just a heads up)
We are excited to go back during the orchid festival please see the photo for more information if you are local to the Palm Springs/ Inland Empire area CA
Also here is my orchid window in my kitchen- enjoy! 💕🌺

Here’s few of the favorite ruffled iris I grow, and a lot of them are pink.

Do you prefer ruffles or like the smooth historic look better? 💕🌺

If you couldn’t be obsessed with iris what flower is next in line for you?
Mine would have to be orchids!

I’m very excited for the orchid festival coming up here in Landers California next month (Oct 3rd for anyone local) show me some flowers you grow that are not iris!

Here are some photos of orchids from our trip to Hawaii.

I was looking through my photos today and looking at iris with yellow tops, black falls and distinctive sunburst patterns. I realize I have a thing for a certain look. Not pictured here is Reckless Abandon, which I also grow! 🤣😂
Ok let me know if I’m missing one I need to add!

Happy to see Jurassic Park putting on a rebloom show today! 🦖🌸 Sometimes the standards are golden with these specks and sometimes they lean more yellow. You can see the variation in my photos. It will depend on the temperature and the rebloom.

This one comes from the late Larry Lauer, a hybridizer who started out in Wilton, California, then spent his retirement years breeding irises on an acre in Independence, Oregon. Over his career he introduced around 161 tall bearded varieties, including his D***s Medal winner 'Stairway to Heaven' (2000) and, as recently as 2024, a Wister Medal win with 'Blinded by the Light,' which I'm excited to grow both in my garden.

Larry passed away in 2024, but his irises are still doing exactly what he bred them to do, blooming beautifully and, in this case, showing off with a lovely September rebloom. Every bloom like this one is a small tribute to his work.
