On behalf of the Cambridge City Area Chamber of Commerce, it is with heavy hearts that we announce the cancellation of this year’s Canal Days event.

We know how much Canal Days means to our community. It is a time when friends, families, businesses, and visitors come together to celebrate the heart and history of Cambridge City. Because of that, we do not make this decision lightly, and we sincerely apologize to everyone who was looking forward to this year’s event.

We have already contacted those vendors we had recorded for this year. We haven't had a chance to check our mailbox this week. We will reach out to those who have mailed theirs in as soon as we receive them.

However, in the wake of the catastrophic flooding that has devastated parts of our community, our focus must now turn to what matters most, our people, our homes, our businesses, and the difficult work of cleaning up and rebuilding.

At this time, our downtown and many areas of our community need our attention, support, and resources. We believe the best way we can honor Cambridge City right now is by coming together, helping our neighbors, supporting our local businesses, and focusing on the recovery ahead.

We are deeply saddened and truly sorry that we will not be able to celebrate Canal Days with you this year. We know this decision is disappointing, and we share in that disappointment. But Cambridge City has always been a community built on strength, resilience, and neighbors helping neighbors.

Right now, our focus is on rebuilding the heart of our community. And when the time is right, we will gather, celebrate, and make new memories together once again.

With heartfelt appreciation and sincere apologies,

Cambridge City Area Chamber of Commerce

There are really no words for how much the kindness of our community has meant to us today and the last few days. ❤️

As we work on pumping out the basement today, we've been blown away by the groups of people who came to town and stopped on the sidewalk just to ask, "What can we do to help?"

A family pulling a wagon down the sidewalk was passing out cold drinks—thank you again! Cambridge City Christian Church organized and is hosting donation services for residents and locals—thank you for providing us buckets and shovels. Thank you to Chick-fil-A for providing our lunch. Thank you to our neighboring businesses for calling, checking in, and stopping by as you navigate the same obstacles. Thank you to friends and family reaching out to see what we need.

Every one of these gestures, big or small, has meant so much.

As a small, mom-and-pop, family-owned business, we’re incredibly grateful to be part of a community that shows up for one another when it matters most.

Thank you, Cambridge City. ❤️

We made it to Cambridge City today to assess High Hats Antique Mall. We are relieved (and blessed) to share that High Hats is okay as of now. A slight area of damp flooring by the front door and a localized spot of wet ceiling on the second floor are the only damage we've noticed so far. More rain is expected over the next several days. Our concern now is the several feet of water in the basement where the furnaces and water heater are located.
We are awaiting the arrival of a portable sump pump, and have heard that electricity could possibly be restored tonight or tomorrow morning. This will allow us to pump out the water. Then, we can determine repairs or replacements needed for the furnaces and water heater.
Locals are gathered with generators pumping water from their businesses and homes. Emergency services and utility companies are working around the town.
We feel very blessed to have such minimal damage. We know other local businesses and residents suffered much larger losses of inventory, personal items, and more.
Main Street (Route 40) into Cambridge City remains closed as crews evaluate the stability and safety of bridges and roads after the catastrophic flooding in the area. Please avoid the area until things are cleared and safe.
Once electricity is restored and our basement is cleared, we plan to reopen soon. Keep an eye on our page.

Water has receeded some, but there is still substantial flooding in the area with more rain expected in the upcoming days. Due to catastrophic flooding and severe road damage in areas across the county, Wayne County remains under a Level 3 travel advisory as of this morning, limiting driving to essential travel only. The Cambridge City area is still without power and utilities, and likely will be for several days. We are still unable to safely travel to High Hats to assess any damages. Our neighbor a few blocks west at Becker's Florist & Greenhouse reported on yesterday's news that they had 10 feet of water in their building's basement. We are expecting water in our underground basement space as well, though we’re hoping it won’t reach the same level. We are unsure about damages to the first-floor until we can safely access our building.

Yesterday was scheduled to be the first day of school for Cambridge students. School was obviously cancelled, and the elementary school was opened for displaced residents seeking shelter. We ask that you join us in praying for the residents (and fellow business owners) who have suffered great loss of property, homes, and personal belongings as a result of the flooding.

We attempted to enter town yesterday as flooding was just beginning. However, all roads were closed off for entry. (In hindsight, we are thankful for this, or else we would have been stranded at High Hats with damage to our vehicle as flood waters rose.) We sat in our car and watched in horror as the town looked like it was being eaten by an angry and rapid-flowing river. Nothing we could do but turn around and go back home and wait for word from other business owners and friends. Cars were washed away, and locals were rescued from their homes by boats. We are grateful for the city folks and emergency workers who have no doubt worked tirelessly to protect our community. We will update our followers on Facebook as we know more about High Hats' damage and reopening.
