Bookseller Missy here!
What’s the most delectable pastry you can imagine? Do you gobble it up? Or do you savor it?

You find yourself dreaming of it, thinking of it, wanting more of it. But not wanting to finish it. You want to savor it. Slow, tender morsels.

The Calamity Club is my French pastry. Crumbles. Layers. Depth. Sadness. Grief. Anger. Injustice. Desperation.

Grit. Tenacity. Perseverance. Ingenuity. Resourcefulness. Audacity. Sharp wit. Encouragement. Loyalty. Support. Family. Friends. Framily—the friends who become family.

I held back from reading the 600+ pages in just a day or two by stretching it into six. This historical fiction piece is set in 1933 Oxford Mississippi. Surviving becomes Birdie’s main objective when she travels from her Delta home for help. Strong women are the only ones you’ll find, as page after page they face adversity and exasperation.
The characters dig deeper than they ever thought themselves capable of.

Stockett’s humor keeps the story alive and moving. It balances the very real circumstances of surviving The Great Depression.

If time had no limit, I’d open the beautiful cover and start again.

Author: Kathryn Stockett
Publisher:Spiegel & Grau

We’ve recently introduced this sassy line of cards + magnets from Shannon Martin Design to our store.

Feisty, cheeky, and saucy are three other adjectives we’d use to describe this line of greeting cards. With one for nearly every occasion, we encourage you to browse and find that perfect option. The vintage style photos are absolutely perfect.

Which one do you like best?!

Have you ever seen our little cart out front?! It’s stocked with books we call “travel copies”.

They aren’t in perfect condition, but they are readable, shareable and priced to move. You can easily read one and leave it behind for a fellow traveler.

👀 I spy some great titles!
