One question I get asked all the time is…
“Is your house full of your artwork?”

The answer is yes… absolutely. Over the years I’ve kept many of my own pieces, and I love seeing them woven into the everyday spaces of our home.

But something equally important to me is filling our home with art created by other artists too.

There’s something special about surrounding yourself with pieces that tell stories, hold memories, spark inspiration, and remind you of the incredibly talented creatives sharing their gifts with the world.

Art has never just been something I create… it’s something I deeply value living with every single day.

And honestly… I wouldn’t have it any other way. ❤️

Creating the artwork is only part of the process… protecting it properly is just as important. ✨

I get asked all the time how I seal my alcohol ink artwork, and the truth is there are quite a few tools involved behind the scenes. UV protectant, resin, painter’s tape, leveling tools, proper lighting… every detail plays a role in making sure the final piece not only looks beautiful, but stands the test of time.

There is so much more that goes into finishing artwork than simply painting it.

Some people will always question the magic… ✨
But sometimes the real magic is simply allowing yourself the freedom to create, to experiment, and to trust what you’re capable of.
That’s one of the reasons I love teaching alcohol inks… because once you understand how the inks move, blend, and bloom, something shifts. You stop worrying about doing it perfectly and start discovering your own creative style.
And that, to me, is where the magic really begins. 🌼

Each flower brings something different to the process… bold color, delicate layers, texture, movement, or simply a connection to memories that make me want to paint them again and again.

One thing I’ve learned over the years… fear of making a mistake stops more creativity than lack of talent ever will. 🌸

I think so many people assume artists just naturally know what they’re doing… but the truth is, every technique I’ve learned came from trial, error, experimenting, and yes… making plenty of mistakes along the way.

Sometimes the only thing standing between you and creating something beautiful is simply giving yourself permission to try.

Don’t be afraid to try. ✨

The audio says, “It’s not all sunshine and rainbows…”

And that’s pretty accurate when it comes to festival life.

There are early morning setups, late-night tear downs, long drives, and plenty of weekends spent watching the weather forecast.

But then there are moments like this.

A booth full of color. Familiar faces. New customers. Conversations that remind me why I do this.

So no, it’s not always sunshine and rainbows.

But sometimes it actually is. 🌈🌸

One of the questions I get asked most often is why I paint on ceramic tile instead of paper.

The answer is simple: I love them both, but they behave very differently.

Yupo is a synthetic paper that can create beautiful effects, and I still enjoy painting on it. But tile gives me a little more freedom. If I don't like a petal or want to change the direction of a flower, I can often remove the ink and try again.

That's one of the things I love most about alcohol inks. The surface you choose becomes part of the creative process.

Festival season doesn't completely stop just because I'm not exhibiting.

Every summer, I take a few months off from shows to recharge, paint for fun, try new ideas, and build inventory for the busy fall season ahead. But it's also when I get the chance to visit festivals that I normally wouldn't be able to see from inside a booth.

This weekend, I'm wandering through the Spoleto Festival in Charleston, taking in the artwork, meeting artists, and seeing what inspiration I can bring back to the studio.

If you know of an art festival that's worth the drive, tell me about it. I'm always looking for new places to explore.
