I was able to get the finish on these two shells yesterday. Both are 6.5x14 and the shells are Maple Gum Maple with 6 ply Maple rings. The veneer is Mappa Burl with what I call Black Shadow Satin finish.
Thinking of making these both 8 lug. I have a pair of double fl**ge hoops and a set of 2.3 triples.

I was able to get my hands on some 10 ply maple shells with figured Bubinga. I got them cut to size and got the base coat on so you can really see what the figurine looks like. These will be sanded and top coated sanded and buffed and they will be unbelievable.
