Always a little bittersweet when students graduate and go on to college! We are so proud to be a part of Leila's music journey since she was little! She is headed off to Texas A&M in 2 weeks for the next chapter. We had a jam on a great song in her final lesson.

I have a note on my desk. I make myself notes sometimes. This one is hard to look at because just a week after wrote this my student Steve passed away suddenly.
We had just started working on Sound of Silence, and I was going to make a video for him to reference at home. Sometimes I make videos for our YouTube channel that are really for our in person students. If they help anyone else then that is fantastic.
I haven’t made the video on sound of silence yet. I don’t think I can yet. It’s too emotional for me.

Also on the note is something I’ve been thinking about a lot lately. A lot of my students play video games, and as someone who started with pong, then Atari 2600 and now plays on an Xbox X, I know a fair bit about gaming. I like to play a lot of RPG’s and then most of those you have a main quest and various side quests. I’ve been thinking about every day life and focusing on what is important and I’ve been asking myself when I’m doing something. Is this the main quest or a side quest? That can help you decide what to work on.

The third thing is realizing that arriving at a destination isn’t always really where the satisfaction comes from. finding joy in the journey is important. When you have arrived, the only thing to do next is to start a new journey. So being able to enjoy the journey, I think is the most important thing whether it’s a journey leveling up your skills in music, Or anything else, the pursuit of the needs to be where you find joy.

My guitar student Steve Goode passed away suddenly earlier this week. I did not post anything initially because I did not have the words. Angela and I are heartbroken, and grieving with the Goode Family. I saw Steve every Wednesday for guitar lessons, and we had some amazing conversations. He was also our sons 4H sharpshooting coach, and an elite level archer. I enjoyed our time together and the wisdom he shared about all kinds of topics. We often talked after lessons about being sons, fathers, husbands, son-in laws, coaches, and men. His impact on our community was felt in so many ways. He reminded me very much of my Uncle Ronnie who passed several years ago and seeing him every week for guitar was a real pleasure. I think I learned as much from him about life, as hopefully he learned from me about music and playing guitar. Our Deepest condolences to the family. Thank you Steve, for all the conversations and life advice. You are tremendously missed.

We are super proud of RNA Music co-owner and resident Music Mama Angela for graduating (with honors) from TJC! Presidents List, Phi Theta Kappa, all the things, while still teaching music students, running a business and being a wonderful wife and mom to literal giants. This is just the first step in Mrs. RNA’s education journey, and we could not be more proud of her.
