Happy Back to School! :-D I hope your families are having a wonderful start to the new school year and have everything you need to have a successful year of learning. Reading and having books for your children at an early age are vital to your children's future. Even so, our community has many children in need of more books to learn and grow and now we have an opportunity to help out through the Fox 4 Book Campaign.

"Dr. Elizabeth Elliott, a professor of Early Childhood at Florida Gulf Coast University, said even just learning to flip through the pages of a book is an important step."

“Infants, have vinyl books and books that are made of cloth that they learn the process of reading. And reading is a skill that children will need for the rest of their lives, and also is the single most predictor of future success,” she told Fox 4.

Dr. Elliott said another key predictor of future success is a child’s ability to learn the alphabet.

“Learning those 26 letters, but knowing that there's uppercase and lowercase. So teaching children the basics of early literacy sets the foundation for the future,” she said.

Reading starts during infancy and together we can help more children learn and grow. See the video below to find out how you can help children in our community. Do you have a favorite story that you read to your children or one that you loved when you were growing up? One of my favorite stories was and still is, "The Giving Tree," by Shel Silverstein.
