As General Manager for Yahoo’s Small Business, Lem helped millions of small businesses grow their ecommerce businesses. As head of acquisition sales at Angie’s List, Lem led sales teams of 600 people dedicated to helping SMBs.

Dr. Art Ulene, whose 23-year tenure as the medical expert on the TODAY show, became known as “Family Doctor,” achieved national acclaim for his ability to accurately simplify complex medical information for general medical audiences. He has always been a passionate promoter of public and personal health and is most proud of the activities that inspired huge numbers of people to adopt healthier behaviors. His annual month-long weight loss series actively involved more than 100,000 participants.

Dr. Ulene is currently working on the use of technology to promote healthy behavior change, health literacy, disease prevention, and wellness across diverse populations at meaningful scale.

Dr. Ulene retired in 1961 to pursue a life of adventure and travel. Since then, he has visited 83 countries and climbed over 17,000 feet on four mountains, including two trips to the 19,341’ summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. He repeated his climb to the summit for his 90th birthday in July 2026, at which time he claimed the World Record as the oldest person to do so.

Dr. Ulene is currently working on a book about healthy aging, along with developing an online membership program.

SUPERNOVA® and Musical Influences
As the founder and leader of SUPERNOVA®, Abadey performs music that transcends the traditional boundaries of jazz, drawing inspiration from African rhythms, bebop, fusion, modal, and free form. Influences include jazz legends like John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Wayne Shorter, Duke Ellington, and Dizzy Gillespie. Abadey began playing drums at age five, influenced by drumming greats such as Tony Williams, Max Roach, and Elvin Jones and his cousin Frankie Dunlop.

Achievements and Honors
Abadey’s band, SUPERNOVA®, released their debut CD, Mirage, on Amosaya Records, followed by Diamond In The Rough on DPC Records. They were selected by the US State Department and Lincoln Center as Ambassadors for the American Music Abroad Rhythm Road, touring East Africa. In 2023, Abadey was honored with the Benny Golson Jazz Masters Award by Howard University and received the Jazz Service Award from the Mid-Atlantic Jazz Festival in 2024.

Performance Highlights
Abadey has performed with numerous Jazz greats, including Dizzy Gillespie, Charlie Rouse, Ella Fitzgerald, and Eartha Kitt. He has also graced various festivals worldwide, such as the San Remo Festival in Italy, Montreal Jazz Festival in Canada, and the Chicago Jazz Festival.

Teaching and Community Involvement/Recognition
For the past 19 years, Abadey has served as a Professor of Jazz Percussion, Jazz History/Analysis, and Jazz Combo at the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University. He also conducts workshops and teaches privately. Abadey has received numerous awards for his contributions to jazz, including the Lifetime Achievement Award from the DC Jazz Festival and the Jazz Leadership and Service Award from the Capitol Hill Jazz Foundation.

Your host, Dion Parson, is an educator, composer, Grammy Award-winning performer, and bandleader. He currently resides on the island of St. Thomas and serves as the Chair of the Communication and Performing Arts Department at the University of the Virgin Islands. He is also the President of the United Jazz Foundation, which is a music education organization that mentors underprivileged kids to become musicians. His musical career has allowed him to tour internationally for over 30 years, and he has been recorded on over 110 recordings.

Stern was previously the CEO of National Public Radio. During his tenure, NPR’s audience more than doubled to over 26 million weekly listeners. Among his achievements at NPR was launching NPR’s award-winning podcast service, as well as NPR Music, mobile offerings, and the successful expansion of NPR.org. During a period of significant retrenchment at major news outlets, Stern led the dramatic expansion of NPR News, both domestically and abroad, evolving it into a key daily news source for tens of millions of people.

Prior to joining NPR, Stern was a senior executive in American International Broadcasting. Earlier in his career, he held positions in Democratic politics. He began his media career with Radio Free Europe/ Radio Liberty in Munich. Stern, a lawyer by training, holds degrees from Haverford College and Yale Law School. He lives in Washington, DC with his wife Beth Cooper and their son Nate.
