This is a difficult and not so fun post to make. We absolutely love selling kids toys and squishies, and we’re extremely grateful for all of our customers, especially those who go out of their way to support local ❤️
However, it’s time to address a not so fun part of owning a small business and selling these toys: the amount we cannot sell due to the packaging being opened. If you’ve been in at all, you’ve likely seen that there are examples of every single toy we sell. You can squeeze all of them to your heart’s content, and we actually encourage it so you know you love what you’re buying. Recently we’ve come across more and more toys that have been ripped open. The picture below is TODAY alone. Twenty-four toys that we can no longer sell and have taken a loss on. We’re averaging nearly 100 every week, sometimes more and sometimes less.
At one point we considered asking all kids to be accompanied by adults when coming into the store, but we quickly realized that won’t solve this problem because it’s mainly adults and teenagers that are opening products. We have implemented cameras, put up signs everywhere asking people not to open packaging, and even a few uncomfortable “please don’t open those” talks. We don’t enjoy it and don’t want our customers to have a bad experience with us. However, even after all of those attempts, we’re still finding opened boxes everywhere.
Starting today, if we see you opening something, we will be asking you to purchase it. If that’s not something that works for you, we will ask you to shop elsewhere. We also ask that you accompany your children at all times possible. Please do not leave them unattended while you go to the pharmacy, or shop elsewhere.
This is an uncomfortable topic and we hope by addressing it once, we can move past it, but, if we don’t see a change we will have to resort to all toys being behind the counter, or stop selling them altogether. We’re doing our best to avoid the latter because we love it as much as you!
So please, please do not open anything in store until after you have purchased it. If you need an example, we have millions, just ask!!
