As Carlsbad Caverns National Park approaches its 100th anniversary of being a proud member of the National Park Service, we would like to recognize just a few of the individuals who helped make this park what it is today.

Meet Ray V Davis, the visionary photographer who played a pivotal role in the foundation of Carlsbad Caverns National Park!

In the early 1900s, Davis's breathtaking photographs of the stunning Carlsbad Caverns captured the hearts of many. His images brought the otherworldly beauty of these caves to the forefront, inspiring a movement for preservation and protection.

Ray's dedication to conservation led to the establishment of Carlsbad Caverns National Park in 1930, ensuring that this natural wonder would be cherished for generations to come. His work reminds us of the power of photography in driving environmental awareness.

Join us in celebrating the history that has led to 100 incredible years as a National Park Service site on October 25th! We will celebrate our centennial at the Carlsbad Caverns National Park visitor center with a morning reception and special programs throughout the day.

Zzzzzzzip! If you listen closely, you can hear the bats returning to their roost in the cave after a long night of foraging.

Many people join us during summer evenings to watch the bats fly out of the cavern, but far fewer get to experience them coming back into the cavern in the early hours of the morning.

Join us on July 16th for the annual Dawn of the Bats program! Starting at 5:15am, there will be a morning bat talk to witness their return. Feeling more adventurous? You can assist a park ranger in waking up the cave. Join a ranger on their morning routine of turning on the lights inside of the Big Room or Main Corridor.

Our celebration of bats will continue throughout the day with bat activates, talks, special junior ranger activities and much more.
