The storm doesn’t follow Thor. It answers him.

Marvel Legends Series Thor

This Thor figure has an imposing presence that really comes through in photography. The black-and-silver armor, gold detailing, long blond hair, and deep red fabric cape give the figure a classic Asgardian look while still feeling distinct from the more familiar versions of the character.

He also comes with a strong assortment of accessories, including multiple Mjolnir hammers, alternate head sculpts and hands, additional hair/helmet options, blue lightning effects, and Throg. The lightning pieces especially opened up a lot of possibilities for building the more powerful, storm-heavy shots in this series.

For the photos, I leaned heavily into Thor’s connection to thunder and lightning, using dark storm backgrounds, flashes of blue-white electricity, rain, and restrained environmental lighting. I wanted the effects to make him feel genuinely surrounded by the storm without losing the action-figure photography underneath them.

I also had to get Doom into one shot. Putting these two together was too good an opportunity to pass up.

Doom doesn’t ask for the throne. He takes it.
Marvel Vintage Series 6-inch Dr. Doom (Fantastic Four)
The classic Doctor Doom sculpt still holds up — the metallic mask, heavy green hood and cloak, and gold chain all give the figure that grounded, slightly menacing presence the character needs.
This one comes loaded with accessories: the Ultimate Nullifier, a pistol, multiple interchangeable hands, energy effect pieces, and two spellbooks — the Darkhold and the Book of the Vishanti. The books especially opened up a lot of the darker, more atmospheric shots in this series.
I leaned into deep black backgrounds with restrained crimson energy to play up the sorcery side of Doom without burying the sculpt underneath effects.
With Avengers: Doomsday on the horizon, the time feels right for the Latverian monarch.

METYTOYZ 1/12 Demon Slayer Asura “Oni Samurai” Takikawa

One of the most immediately striking things about METYTOYZ’s 1/12 Demon Slayer Asura “Oni Samurai” Takikawa is just how much detail is packed into the figure. From the massive blue oni sculpt and gold horns to the layered armor, skull necklace, hanging demon masks, and tattered battle standard, nearly every part of the design gives you something different to photograph.

The accessories add even more versatility. Takikawa includes an alternate head sculpt with long white hair, multiple interchangeable hands, additional armor pieces, his large battle standard, a sheathed sword, and a long polearm. Combined with the removable masks already incorporated into his outfit, there are a surprising number of ways to change his appearance and build different compositions around the figure.

For this series, I wanted the photography to place Takikawa somewhere that felt appropriate to the character rather than simply putting him against a neutral backdrop. Mountain landscapes, distant Japanese architecture, open grassland, and bamboo establish the environment while the shallow depth of field keeps the figure and his elaborate design at the center of each image.

The carousel moves between wider shots that show Takikawa’s full silhouette and battle standard and tighter portraits focusing on some of my favorite details. The individual demon masks, skulls, armor, banner, and facial sculpt are elaborate enough that several of them almost become subjects of their own when photographed up close.

METYTOYZ’s 1/12 Demon Slayer Asura “Oni Samurai” Takikawa is an incredibly distinctive figure with an imposing presence and an almost ridiculous amount of sculpted detail. Between the accessories, mixed materials, armor, alternate display options, and overall design, there is plenty here to experiment with both on display and behind the camera.

S.T.A.R.S…

Patriot Studio’s 1/12 scale The Big Boss brings one of survival horror’s most iconic monsters to life with an imposing sculpt, incredible texture work, and a seriously impressive collection of accessories. Inspired by Nemesis from Resident Evil 3, the figure captures everything that makes the character so intimidating, from his towering proportions and grotesque facial sculpt to the industrial restraint suit, exposed flesh, and massive weaponry.

The release also comes loaded with display options, including multiple interchangeable hands, alternate parts, mutated tentacles, and his signature rocket launcher. Combined with the figure’s size and articulation, there’s a surprising amount of freedom to recreate both the calculated menace and monstrous aggression that define Nemesis.

For this series, I wanted the photography to feel less like traditional figure portraits and more like encountering Nemesis somewhere deep inside an Umbrella facility. Cold industrial lighting and heavy shadows establish the environment, while the red emergency lighting gradually cuts through the scenes and gives the entire set a more dangerous, claustrophobic atmosphere.

The carousel moves between wider shots that emphasize his sheer size and tighter portraits that focus on the incredible sculpt and unsettling facial details. The shallow depth of field in several images lets Nemesis emerge from the environment rather than simply stand in front of it, while the reaching poses bring him uncomfortably close to the camera.

Patriot Studio’s 1/12 scale The Big Boss is an incredibly striking interpretation of Nemesis and a figure that lends itself naturally to cinematic photography. Between the sculpt, imposing proportions, accessories, and horror presence, this is the kind of release that can dominate a display just as easily as it can dominate a photograph.

52TOYS Street Fighter 6 Ryu 🥋🔥

This might genuinely be the most fun I’ve ever had photographing a figure. BEASTBOX absolutely nailed the balance between sculpt and articulation here. Ryu can hit virtually any pose you want without the articulation cuts compromising the look of the figure.

The sculpt, paint application, and overall detailing are excellent, and the removable soft-goods cloak adds another layer of texture and personality. It photographs incredibly well and gives you a completely different look depending on how you use it.

The accessory spread is just as impressive: 3 head sculpts, 6 hands, the removable cloak, 4 translucent white action effects, a Hadouken effect, and multiple display stands/bases. The four translucent white effects include Shoryuken strike paths and two shorter impact effects, and they’re some of the best motion accessories I’ve used in photography. They communicate speed and impact without overpowering the figure or looking overly exaggerated.

Ryu also scales extremely well alongside other Street Fighter lines, as shown here with JadaToys’ Balrog, making him easy to incorporate into larger displays and photography setups.

Between the articulation, sculpt, paint, accessories, scale, and sheer posing potential, this is easily my favorite Ryu figure I’ve photographed. For me, this is the ultimate Street Fighter Ryu.

This might genuinely be the most fun I’ve ever had photographing a figure. 52TOYS US absolutely nailed the balance between sculpt and articulation here. Chaos has a way of finding her… and she wouldn’t have it any other way.

The Marvel Legends Lady Deadpool from Hasbro’s Box Build-A-Figure Wave brings Wanda Wilson to life with an expressive comic-inspired sculpt, excellent articulation, and plenty of personality. From the flowing alternate hair piece to her dual katanas and submachine guns, the figure offers everything needed to recreate the unpredictable energy that makes Lady Deadpool such a memorable member of the Deadpool Corps.

For this series, I wanted to capture Lady Deadpool in the middle of an all-out urban firefight rather than relying on simple action poses. Each scene places her deeper into the chaos, transitioning seamlessly between fi****ms and swords while explosions, debris, and collapsing buildings transform the battlefield around her. The goal was to create a sequence that feels like pages pulled straight from an over-the-top comic book.

Whether she’s charging headfirst into danger, covering every direction with twin SMGs, or closing the distance with her katanas drawn, Lady Deadpool never appears overwhelmed. Every pose reflects the fearless, reckless confidence that defines the character, making each image feel like another split second in the same battle.

The Marvel Legends Box Build-A-Figure Wave Lady Deadpool is an outstanding release for collectors and toy photographers alike. With dynamic accessories, expressive posing options, and a striking comic-inspired design, it’s a figure that practically invites cinematic photography.

Time itself bends to his will.

The Marvel Legends Kang from Hasbro’s Joe Fixit Build-A-Figure wave captures one of Marvel’s most formidable villains with an outstanding comic-inspired sculpt, bold classic colors, and an unmistakable commanding presence. His iconic armor, stoic expression, and excellent articulation make him a fantastic figure for both collectors and toy photographers.

For this series, I wanted to explore different aspects of Kang beyond simple action poses. From manipulating temporal energy and unraveling the multiverse to standing at the crossroads of ancient civilizations and futuristic technology, each scene represents a different chapter in the Conqueror’s journey through time.

Whether he is rewriting history or walking confidently between eras, Kang never appears rushed. Every action is deliberate because, from his perspective, time itself is simply another resource to command.

The Marvel Legends Joe Fixit BAF Wave Kang remains one of Hasbro’s strongest comic-inspired villain releases, offering expressive posing, excellent shelf presence, and nearly limitless opportunities for cinematic photography.
