Our family is honored and grateful for the continued support from our community. Pat Efird is a true pillar of our town and we are honored to receive an award inspired by her impact.

2025 . The Barbour family has served residents and vacationers far beyond just the sale of basic hardware and fishing items. They are iconic.

In 2000, Wanda left her job as an elementary school teacher’s assistant to work at the store. Until retirement, Dennis put in hours outside of his full-time job and his duties as mayor of Carolina Beach. As his parents’ first hire, Wes spent his spare time working there through high school and during summers in college.

Dennis says Wes and Griffin understand the next wave of customers, a younger generation. Wanda says, “they truly seem to love it”.

In over 35 years they have never left prior to, or during a hurricane. Wes is driven to serve the place where he grew up and to “be here when people need us.” Doing that and continuing to grow built a family legacy, an icon in our Carolina Beach & Kure Beach Community.
