Let's talk about b***s.
This is my third time trying to write this so third times a charm?
So as I'm sure y'all are aware it's Breast Cancer Awareness month. I had originally loaded up this post with quick facts and statistics you'd probably see in the doctor's office but that just doesn't feel right for this.
So. Brest Self Exams. I feel like most people know what they are but we don't talk about them outside of "This is something you need to do."
I feel like they're kind of scary and intimidating but maybe that's just me. As much as I'd like to say I do mine every month, that's just not true. I should, I mean this is the age we're supposed to really start.
I decided to share these images because I feel like when you see other people talking about it and see stuff like this it makes it easier. The first one is the easiest for me to digest but I decided, in the end, it's best to share both.
So a couple things you're looking for when doing a Self Breast Exam. Abnormalities in shape, size, skin texture, and feeling. One thing I didn't know before this is you're supposed to check all the way up to your collarbone and under your arm.
Also... what would a lump feel like? I haven't asked anyone personally but from what I found online it's an area where the tissue is more solid/harder than the rest.
I've learned it's really important to learn your breasts. How they look, feel, shape, and skin texture. Or as I like to put it, become friends with your breasts.
I learned the best time to do an exam would be the week after your period (the common number I've heard is 2-3 days afterward). Glad I learned that because I would've done it at the beginning of every month.
While this is can be a scary or intimidating thing for some and for others it's no big deal, no matter your feelings on it, remember you're not alone. There are so many other women tackling life one step at a time and trying to navigate stuff like this.
So. Do self exams now, get to know your b***s, talk to your doctors with any concerns about this, oh and while yes I focused this on women, men, feel free to do this for yourself as well. It's not very common but men can get Breast Cancer-
