If you’ve ever wondered just how many flowers you can pick from ~2,000sqft, this one is for you!

While it varies, I typically pick around 200 flowers a week. When specific varieties are at their peak, that can go up to 500+ 🤩

FLOWER. FACT. FRIDAY.
When you see pictures of flower farms, it’s pretty common to see pictures similar to the one below with strands of lights illuminating the flowers.

At least in my case, the lights are not just aesthetic; they’re also very practical. It’s best to pick flowers in the morning (when temps are cool & they’ve had a chance to rest and get watered) or in the evening (when they’ve soaked up all the sun for the day and are feeling energized). I prefer the evenings so I don’t feel like I have to race against the heat.

These lights provide a way for me to clearly see the flowers and ensure they’re at prime picking stage even when harvesting at/after dusk. ✨

As I mentioned in yesterday’s newsletter, fall is my favorite season on the farm because it’s when I have the most flowers and more flowers means more bouquets to share!
