**PUBLIC INFORMATION ALERT**

Now that the City of Cartersville schools are in full swing, please remember to stop for school buses!

Addy’s Law, which took effect July 1st and updates the existing O.C.G.A. 40-6-163, enhances the penalties for illegally passing a school bus. If found guilty, the following penalties have changed:

Before:
The driver would be convicted of a traffic offense and pay a $250 fine.

Now:
The driver will be convicted of a high and aggravated misdemeanor and pay a $1,000 fine. Additionally, the driver could be sentenced up to 12 months confinement.
