Merry Christmas!
It's December 1st and it's that time of year! We hope everyone enjoyed Thanksgiving and you are handling Christmas planning and decorating with enjoyment. As part of our effort to help, we are having a site-wide Christmas sale this month and hope you can find something perfect for the gamers on your list, or something the entire family can enjoy on Christmas Day (and for many years afterwards)!
During the month of December, our focus will be on families and the games they play! We have a very good selection of family and Euro games (what's a "Euro game," you ask? see the next paragraph), and we are putting a sitewide sale into effect to help make it easier for you to acquire something new and fun for your family/friends night game collections. Of course, we still have our huge selection of war board games, RPGs, miniatures, and accessories as well, and they're all on sale too! So, take a look at our web page and see if there's anything we can help you find. As a reminder, we do carry complete lines, so if you want something in a particular line of board or tabletop games and don't see it listed there, please call or write us and ask!
So, what's a "Euro"? Briefly, "Euro" games get their name from the fact that the genre originated in Europe, specifically Germany, and the difference between a Euro and a regular family board game (like Monopoly, for example) is that Euro games tend to be less directly competitive in nature and more cooperative between players. As an example, in Monopoly, you are trying to beat all the other players and become the richest player in the game. In a Euro game, you are typically cooperating with the other players in a race against time and the game system itself to see if you can pull off a team win in the face of a threatening game situation. For example, in Forbidden Island, you are racing against time to collect certain artifacts, even as the island is sinking into the sea around you! "Euro games" are produced here in America as well as overseas (just like regular board games), and the term merely indicates the type of game system you're playing.
Continuing on Cyber Monday, we plan to offer some of our best prices ever on family games for those looking for a great Christmas Gift for that special child or grandchild (as well as a great excuse to let your own hair down and have fun with the kids and each other)! And, as part of our drive to help everyone have a very Merry Christmas, we are also doubling down on our free shipping offer (for orders over $50) in addition to giving some very nice discounts to everyone buying presents for someone! So please check back on our website throughout the month of December to see what new opportunities are coming your way to pick up that special something for that special someone (even if that special someone is you!).
More videos coming soon! We are beginning to transition our YouTube page to a wider variety of topics (in response to some expressed desire from you all, as well as our reading of the tea leaves from number of views), so we will focus less on specific games you can buy from us (though we'll definitely tell you if you can get something we're talking about from us or not), and more on the history OF gaming, the history IN gaming, and some reflection on the role gaming (of all types) has played in our personal lives -- both in terms of how we've used or "experienced" a gaming situation, and how gaming has helped us through some of our many deployments and activities in just plain life. We hope you'll continue to tune in with us as we walk down this road together!

Free Stuff! Our COO is still working on creating a very nice little miniatures skirmish scenario (that can easily be parleyed into an on-going miniatures/RPG campaign) right now, and we hope to have it up on our web site for a free download quite soon. In addition, I'm working on a paper and pencil 4X space game (based on the game WarpWar for its tactical combat engine) called Empires of Dawn. You'll need some six-sided dice, some paper and some pens or pencils to play, but it's an evolutionary development of a game I've been working on, on and off, for roughly 40 years now, and I think some of you might enjoy a look at really "old school" gaming the way we did it back in the age of "stone knives and bearskins" (IFYKYK). It DOES feature an automated galaxy generation tool though, so you can generate a campaign game somewhat more on the fly! I hope to have it available to download within the next month or so.
Roleplaying Games! Don't Look Back! continues to be our current "best seller" among RPGs and miniatures used for RPGs. While our other offerings, such as Pathfinder 2 and Call of Cthulhu continue to do well, Don't Look Back! has kind of become that star player that comes out of nowhere to challenge the best lines to become even better, so please go to our site and check what we have on offer for this surprisingly fun little game!
We are a disabled-veteran owned and operated store and look forward to serving you in any way we can. We can really use your support, and we will give 110% to helping you find what you want for your gaming and miniatures needs! Give us the opportunity to help you!
Let the good times roll!
December's Word of the Month is:
Kessel*
*(Could be "spice mines," could be the German term of art for a cauldron battle after a pocket is formed! 😊)
