🚨 Introducing: Safe City Spotlight 🚨
Beginning this week, the Casa Grande Police Department will be launching a new weekly feature called Safe City Spotlight.
Each week, we’ll be sharing real-world examples of how our Safe City Initiative is helping us keep Casa Grande safe—highlighting recent success stories, proactive enforcement efforts, and how technology is making a difference right here in our community.
This initiative combines tools like license plate reader cameras, real-time video, and drone technology to give our officers better information, faster response capabilities, and increased situational awareness—all while maintaining a strong commitment to transparency and accountability.
This week’s Spotlight
“CGPD received a call for service regarding a theft from a local retail store, Casa Grande Tactical Gun Shop. The business reported that two suspects entered the store, stole a handgun, and left the area in a vehicle. Officers arrived on scene and were given a description of the suspects. Utilizing the information provided by witnesses, officers in our Real-Time Information Center (RTIC) immediately utilized Pan-Tilt-Zoom (PTZ) cameras and License Plate Reader (LPR) cameras to identify and track the suspect vehicle's direction as it fled the area. Patrol officers initiated a search for the vehicle and located it, relaying information to the RTIC, who in turn deployed a Drone as a First Responder (DFR) to the area. As the Drone provided situational oversight, officers were able to intercept the vehicle just before it arrived near the registered owner’s residence and conducted a high-risk traffic stop. At the time of the traffic stop, only one of the suspects was still in the vehicle, and he was taken into custody without further incident. This suspect is a 45-year-old local male. The stolen firearm was located in the vehicle and will be returned to the business owner. The second suspect, a 48-year-old local male, was eventually located and arrested.
This incident demonstrates how Safe City Initiative technology, paired with proactive patrol work, is helping keep dangerous stolen fi****ms off our streets before they can be used to victimize members of our community. Every stolen gun recovered is potentially a violent crime prevented, and the Casa Grande Police Department remains committed to aggressively identifying, tracking, and recovering these weapons before they can be used in additional criminal acts.”
