Just a little reminder that August can be spectacular in the garden. 🌹

There are roses blooming everywhere you look in this garden—and I love the combination of deep reds, hot pinks, soft pinks and yellows.

Sometimes we get so focused on getting everything planted in spring that we forget to plan for what the garden will look like in August. This is exactly why succession of bloom matters.

Midsummer heat is certainly bringing on the hydrangea blooms! 🌸

Here are a couple more photos of some stunning beauties we happened to find just this weekend in a backyard on South Walnut Street.

This is Hydrangea paniculata ‘Vanilla Strawberry,’ and the white blooms are incredibly striking against the rich emerald-green foliage of the complementary plants in this garden bed.

We love finding (and sharing 😉) these little garden gems around Casper. It’s our privilege to be able to share evidence of plants that thrive here when the right plant is put in the right place.

Summer #4 for this ‘Limelight’ Hydrangea—and we absolutely love the show it puts on every summer. 🌿

Hydrangeas can be a little tricky in Casper. Our cold winters, alkaline soils, wind and dry conditions can make some varieties a real challenge.

For our area, we tend to have the most success with Hydrangea paniculata and Hydrangea arborescens. They’re among the better choices for our climate, but even these tough hydrangeas have a few preferences: morning sun, protection from harsh afternoon conditions, and consistent moisture.

When those needs are met, they can be spectacular—as this ‘Limelight’ demonstrates.

🌸 Looking for something less common in your landscape? Here’s a shrub many haven’t heard of:

WGGA IS LOOKING FOR BOARD MEMBERS.

Yes, you. Seriously. We’re not that picky.

The Wyoming Groundskeepers & Growers Association has several open positions on our Board of Directors, and we’re looking for some new people willing to jump in and participate.

Landscaping, arboriculture, horticulture, grounds management, irrigation, nursery, turf, parks, golf, suppliers, educators—or really, anyone interested in the green industry who wants to get involved.

We’d be happy to have you.

And before “Board of Directors” scares you off, relax. This is not a second job.

Most of it can be done remotely. The time commitment is reasonable. No suit required. No previous board experience necessary. You don’t need an impressive title or a fancy résumé.

If you’re willing to participate, share some ideas, and occasionally answer an email, you’re already looking pretty qualified.

And if serving on the board isn't for you, you can nominate a friend. A coworker. Your boss. Your employee. That person you know who is always saying “somebody ought to…”

As long as they're willing. Please ask them first. We do have standards.

You’ll get to meet some great people, help support and promote the green industries throughout our region, bring new ideas to WGGA, and help us put on the best green industry conference the Rocky Mountain region has ever seen.

We have open seats.
We have ideas.
We have things we want to accomplish.

What we need are people willing to show up and help make it happen.
