Happy!
Do you remember going to sleep at a certain time when you were younger? Or maybe fighting with your parents because you didn't want to go to sleep at 8pm??? Regardless, our parent's knew best. Having a consistent sleep schedule benefits you, your body and your next day, in many ways!
Your body’s internal clock, a.k.a. your circadian rhythm, plays a key role in regulating your sleep-wake cycle. Ideally, you should stick to the same sleep schedule every night so your body can find its natural rhythm. If you constantly change the time you fall asleep and wake up, this can cause irritability, drowsiness, mood swings, concentration and memory problems, headaches, and a decline in cognitive skills. Many people with inconsistent sleep schedules also report restless sleep, meaning you never enter the stages of the deep, quality sleep your brain and body need to restore themselves!
I hate to say this SB-Fam, but another thing you will need to avoid is sleeping in on the weekends. We know how tempting this can be. It’s perfectly fine to sleep in a little bit on Saturdays and Sundays, but don’t spend the day in bed simply because you can. Your body will never adjust if your weekend schedule is drastically different from your weekday.
I dare you to commit to a sleep routine, starting this weekend. You can only gain from this and finally get the good night’s rest you deserve!
