During this time of year, we like flies that look like nothing specific at all but like everything simultaneously. The Duracell Jig, which this fish took, is high on that list. Another pattern on that list is the Prince Nymph. We think the Prince Nymph should be in the discussion for the GOAT, alongside the Hare's Ear and Pheasant Tail. The sheer number of variations is a testament to the greatness of the Prince Nymph. The Olson brothers of Minnesota are credited with the creation of the first Prince Nymph in the 1930s, which they called the Brown Fork-Tailed Nymph. It was in the following decade that Doug Prince of California popularized the fly. It is versatile to say the least; it can be used to imitate stoneflies, drakes, caddis, or mayflies (some think the white biots represent the remains of a wing case). It has been tied with wire, with a bead, with rubber legs, with a hot spot, in numerous colors, with flash. A true great.
