An incredible Marketplace score. This pile of reclaimed wood might look pretty run-of-the-mill, but it's actually quite special. Seller assumed this was old pine barn boards, but it is actually American Chestnut. A fungal blight killed almost all of the Chestnut trees in the U.S. back in the early 1900s. Meaning other than imported English Chestnut, the only way to get any is by salvaging.
I'm switching focus over the next few weeks into building a few rolling dry bars. I was lucky enough to also inherit a few poured concrete bar tops that very faithfully pull off live edge cedar aesthetics from a bar I run trivia at. I'll use a bit of this Chestnut on a bar, and use the rest for a special line of speaker and amplifier cabinets a bit down the road.
