Let’s chat about repurposing flowers!

I am a big fan of repurposing flowers (when appropriate).

One of my favorite ways to do so is turning aisle pieces into ground statement pieces at@hour reception.

Now, we have to have good conditions for this to work! Super hot months sometimes aren’t kind to flowers. Wind can also sometimes play a role!

You also need to have a willing friend, family member, maybe coordinator who will help move these pieces after the ceremony!

All-in-all, just talk your florist about what’s possible and they will lead you well!

Hey! My name is Kathryn! Owner of Beautifully Bloomed 💕

I’ve seen some new faces so I thought I’d reintroduce myself!

I have always LOVED flowers growing up. From gardening, farmers markets, and grocery store bouquets - I was a bit obsessed.
I applied to multiple floral shops during high school and college trying to follow flowers but heard multiple no’s that I decided… maybe this isn’t the right path for me?

When I got my first job out of college (teaching) I was looking for something to do in the summers. This time I got an internship at a wedding floral design company and was HOOKED!

Our partnership ended when I returned to teaching in the fall and my passion for teaching suddenly started to be outshined from the confidence I learned from working in the wedding industry.

Teaching was always my “safe” route. I loved making relationships with students, being creative, and challenging myself but I never pursue floral design because that’s more “unknown” to me. (And hearing so many no’s in the past didn’t help)
In 2019 we decided to start Beautifully Bloomed with the idea to do a couple of weddings in the summer. Our main focus was growing flowers from our gardens because I really wanted to connect growing and designing. Iowa produces some of the most beautiful flowers and yet they aren’t used often enough. So when I opened, I really wanted my focus to be on the whole process - building relationships with my couples, hand selecting the seeds, growing the flowers, and then designing them to create beautiful arrangements 💕
In 2020, our schools shut down and I thought - if im actually going to create a business, I better learn how to do so.
2021 - I started to have a hard time saying no to couples. I didn’t realize how much I would love the entirety of floral design. Making relationships, being creative, and challenging myself (sound familiar? 😉). All of a sudden I realized that I can’t keep teaching and floral design. I was wearing myself thin and needed to choose. My husband and I decided to leap into the unknown and have me go full time at the end of the school year.

My goal this wedding season is to carve out more time to photograph my work before it heads out the door.

I work with some amazing photographers who capture flowers beautifully- but flowers are not the main event of the wedding (as it should be!) so I wish to capture their beauty independently!

Here is one of my favorites from last year. Color + “wildflowers”. So lovely!

Who is ready for a beautiful wedding season?!??

Me!

I’m so excited to be creating again! I don’t know about yall, but this winter felt extra cold so seeing green outside, flowers popping through the ground is so encouraging!

Who doesn’t love cake flowers?

Last season I was experimenting with how to make them safer as well as quicker and I think I found something!

Next wedding, I’ll make a little reel to show you, but I’m excited to expand on new ideas and make the wedding day that much more smooth!
