We're honored to partner with the new Sleeping Bear Folk & Field School (www.phsb.org/event) as they celebrate the history and handmade traditions of our region. I'll be teaching several classes this season, and we'd love to welcome both new makers and those ready to learn a new skill.

Working with bulky yarn and straightforward construction, you’ll learn buttonholes, finishing techniques, and project assembly while creating a piece that fits beautifully into almost any style, from cottage to cabin. Expect patient guidance, plenty of encouragement, and a welcoming atmosphere where every stitch becomes part of a shared story.

LAST DAY TO ORDER
Shalda Creek Afterglow is our August 2026 installment of the Sleeping Bear Yarn Club. Dyed for us by the talented Jeanne of destinationyarn in Cleveland, Ohio. As the sun slips below the horizon, Shalda Creek reflects one last burst of summer light before giving way to evening. Deep violets, midnight blues, and glowing embers of coral and gold drift across the sky, mirrored in the quiet water winding through the forest. This colorway captures that fleeting northern Michigan moment—when the day lingers just a little longer, the pines become silhouettes, and the landscape settles into peaceful stillness.

Knitting the Lakeshore: MOSAIC KNITTING BASICS
July 31 @ 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm
Tuition: $65 Supply Fee $55

A shawl is what we consider a foundation piece, both in terms of wardrobe and within your knitting repertoire. We’re introducing a basic framework here—the ubiquitous triangle shape achieved by increasing at the edges—and showing you one way it looks fabulous (with a verrrrrry special handspun) in a simple-to-work slip-stitch pattern that reminds us of beach stones. Not sure about the hand spun yarn? You’ll achieve an entirely different look with a combination of hand painted yarn + solid or two solids/tonals for more of a checkerboard look. Never worked two colors before? Don’t fret–this is an easy-to-remember slip-stitch pattern that yields impressive results.

Basic knitting experience required.
