Looks like fall clouds — but we still have EIGHT (8) days of summer left! Anyone building a rocket, fighting a mummy or giving a monkey a shower? Hope we don’t drive anyone insane … but we’ll be paddling.

The first summer we came to the Les Cheneaux in 2011 and rented a cottage overlooking Hessel Bay, we discovered places like the Hessel Grocer, Hessel Bay Inn, Cattails Cove, and of course Snow's Bar. After yesterday's September 9 fire destroyed Snow's, only one of these places remains.

Beyond the steep drive always cleared in the winter, the honey-colored pine furniture, the bar built of local rock, and the whitefish Reuben, it was always the bathroom signs that made me smile (even though you never wanted to linger too long washing your hands in the colder months!).

The Les Cheneaux community has lost part of itself that has been here for generations. Hoist a stein for memories, perch, milestones big and small, and news for a next chapter.
