Happy Friday!!
First of all, we’re selling tickets to the Chamber of Commerce Basque Barbecue, held next Thursday, the 27th which is opening day of the fair already!! Seriously, where did the summer go?
Among the tasty traditional Basque fare are locally raised lamb or beef and locally grown salad greens. So, come in to the Mercantile and buy your tickets this weekend (so it doesn’t look like I’ve been lallygagging). See you there.

Okay on another note… Chiffon (who is still young, energetic, and possesses all her original joints) has been doing a major rearrange of the Mercantile. I’m liking the change! More to come, but in the meantime , here are some pictures …
We’re also selling tote bags and mugs to help with the “Rally the Valley “ legal costs.

It’s First Friday and Independence Day weekend! So much going on and so many ways to celebrate this weekend! Parades, car races, rodeos, watermelon eating contests, and fireworks! Take a few minutes to read the Declaration of Independence and reflect on what the brave men and women of our past have given us.
Go out and make this weekend especially fantastic!

As Benjamin Franklin left the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia on September 17, 1787 he was asked “Well, Doctor, what have we got, a republic or a monarchy?” Franklin immediately replied, “A republic, if you can keep it.”
It wasn’t a one day thing. It was more than a decade of debating, arguing, fighting,and war. The Declaration of Independence was the start. We still have a Republic, if we can keep it. It’s served us well for 250 years.

Oh my goodness, I’ve been trying to get this post finished since yesterday morning! Well, here it is. Better late than never.
Isn’t this a beautiful coffin?! Occasionally someone will send a family quilt to line the coffin. It’s such a nice personal touch.
