day 8 total right hip replacement (anterior)

PT yesterday. Feeling very sore today. Burning sensation still there. It’s very painful/annoying/unacceptable. Through it all, I am working hard on patience. I trust and pray that in a few days I’ll be feeling so much better, stronger and able to walk with less pain.

I’ve been shown so much love. And I cannot tell you how much I appreciate you all. There are so many people struggling and suffering so much more than me. Your kindness just makes me want to be a better human being. This is the lesson that I’m going to take from this situation. To be more present, kind, and thoughtful to anyone going through tough moments.

I am finding the beauty from the ashes.

This picture is our cat, Scarlet. She’s a rescue and very skittish and afraid of her shadow. Very, very unusual for her to come up on my lap. Today I welcome this big furry sweet girl and will love on her until she decides she’s done.

Day 5 and 6 Total right hip replacement (anterior)

Yesterday I had my first physical therapy appointment. Basically they just wanted to see where I was at. Assessed me/measured my angles to see what my range of motion was. Gave me several exercises to do and told me to reach out to my surgeon and tell him about the searing burning pain in my thigh.

I did call and basically it is an unfortunate side effect of the surgery. There is something called the femoral nerve that runs along the quadriceps muscle and when they open that area up, that can get stretched and aggravated which for some can cause an intense burning sensation. This is my experience every time I take a step. It takes my breath away.

They’re hoping it will potentially subside. Could take anywhere between four weeks from now up to a year. I am going to trust that it will be a short-lived situation. My next PT appointment is Wednesday. I just can’t wait lol

Otherwise, I’m doing fairly well today. My energy is pretty darn good. I don’t like sitting as I am not used to that.

I’m staying very upbeat, thanking God for the good and the bad. I am feeling appreciative of my husband Brian Stetler, children, family and friends. You all have been just so darn good to me!

Day 4 right total hip replacement (anterior)

Today is a better day. I was able to get a shower and man that made me feel human again!

Still icing on and off every 20 minutes. Still taking my pain medication exactly as prescribed and not past a minute.

Was tired today and my right thigh burns with any movement. I know this is all normal and it’s just something I need to work through and be patient with.

Tomorrow is my first PT appointment. Not sure what they will have me do but I’ll be there with a good attitude.

Thanks for the love, support, and prayers. I hope to return that favor to each one of you one day somehow. ♥️

Day 2 post right total hip replacement…

The good:

✅ I was able to get a solid 7 hours of sleep

✅ haven’t missed my short walks, PT ordered exercises or fluid intake

✅ able to eat normally. No nausea

✅ I have an awesome ice machine which feels pretty good

The bad:

❌ the spinal block wore off. Pain is prominent now. Just sitting here it feels like there is a vice on my right thigh. Inside and out.

❌ I am already feeling cagey lol

❌ the right thigh and hip is experiencing spasms and it’s uncomfortable.

So to sum up day 2 it’s pretty much what is expected. I know I need to be patient and relax through this process. This is where grit comes into play. God will get me through. And on a bright note, I have a fantastic husband taking great care of me. My children are checking in often as are many of you which I truly appreciate.

Tomorrow is unknown but I’m ready for what is to come.

Surround yourself with positive people. Those that root you on and pull up a chair to have a seat at the table.
