He can’t stop talking about it. 😅 Anytime autumn rolls around Richard becomes endearingly obsessed with clematis paniculata. This “Sweet Autumn” clematis is a climbing vine native to New Zealand that bursts into fragrant glory right around September. Its star-shaped, cream-colored flowers are irresistible to pollinators, and in the warmer season it maintains interest with its lush green leaves. Keep in mind that this clematis is a vigorous climber, so you’ll want to provide it with some kind of supporting structure like a fence, archway, or trellis.

Care Level: Easy || The Money Tree 👇

Pachira aquatic is a species of wetland tree native to Central and South America. It makes a great, easy-to-care-for houseplant because it can withstand low-light conditions and infrequent watering. If you really want it to thrive, place it in bright but indirect sunlight. This symbol of prosperity has come a long way from the swamps and can yellow easily if it’s exposed to too much direct sunlight. Water when the soil is dry, and in return the Money Tree will grant you good luck and a beautiful, low-fuss houseplant.

Homeschool Botany: From Farm to Fork!

Thursday, September 10 | 10:30 AM (Ages 5–8) ) and 2:30 (Ages 9-12)�$15 per student | Online pre-registration required

Where does our food come from? Before it reaches our plates, it takes quite a journey!

In this month’s Homeschool Botany, students will explore the fascinating journey of food from the farm to the table. We’ll look at several familiar foods and discover the many steps involved in growing, harvesting, processing, transporting, selling, and finally eating them.

Then it’s time to put our knowledge to the test! Students will work together to sequence the steps in the farm-to-table journey.

And for a delicious hands-on finale, we’ll learn how to make our own butter from cream! Each student will get to take some homemade butter home to enjoy.
