๐Ÿ”” A historic moment at the ANA World's Fair of Money. For the first time ever, all 11 government-owned 1933 Saint Gaudens Double Gold Eagles are currently on display by the U.S. Mint. These coins are illegal to privately own - only one surviving 1933 Double Eagle is legal for private ownership. (last photo)
What a fantastic opportunity to see a vital moment in American numismatic history up close!
While 11 government-owned 1933 Saint-Gaudens Double Eagles are currently on display at the ANA World's Fair of Money, just one is in private hands.
When Franklin D. Roosevelt ordered the 445,000 gold coins to be melted down, some survived and were smuggled out of the Mintโ€”and this one was purchased by King Farouk of Egypt.
In PCGS MS65, this stunner last sold for $18,872,250โ€ผ๏ธ
Thanks to The U.S. Department of the Treasury and the American Numismatic Association for making this happen!

๐Ÿซจ 1792 Half Disme!
Production: Minted around July 1792 in the cellar of saw-maker John Harper in Philadelphia, before the official mint building was fully operational.
Figures Involved: President George Washington mentioned the issue in his annual address, and Secretary of State Thomas Jefferson served as the first depositor, famously recording the receipt of 1,500 pieces, every one being in the hands of Jefferson, who kept a detailed journal as he spent them...
Design: The obverse shows a left-facing portrait of Liberty with the text LIB. PAR. OF SCIENCE & INDUSTRY (Liberty, Parent of Science and Industry), while the reverse features a small flying eagle.
Name Origin: "Disme" (pronounced deem) is an old French-derived word for tenth. The spelling later changed to "half dime" by 1837.
Mintage: Approximately 1,500 were originally struck, with only an estimated 100 to 200 survivors remaining today.
Market Price: As an extreme numismatic rarity, surviving examples in worn condition can command tens of thousands of dollars, while high-grade uncirculated specimens certified by services like PCGS CoinFacts routinely sell for hundreds of thousands of dollars.

U.S. Mint Director is most gracious as he engages with the many folks who stood in line to speak with him. A himself, Mr. Hollis understands the hobby and industry very well! And he was nice enough to sign some things for us! Jeff Garrett was also happy to autograph our Red Book!
