Hauer Music Repairs and Restoration

Here is Bob McComb. I recently did some work on his Yamaha YTR6345S Trumpet. Here he is picking it up in his van, because of some current mobility issues, but so glad he is still actively playing music. He also dropped off his Yamaha Xeno Trumpet, which will have a total factory overhaul with new silver plating.
Here is what Bob sent me about his musical background:

"Bob McComb grew up in Hamilton, Ohio. He attended the public schools in Hamilton, graduating from Taft High School in June 1970.
Bob arrived on the campus of Ohio University, Athens, OH in August 1970 where he participated in marching band camp prior to the start of classes in September. While at OU, Bob was a member of the 110 Marching Men of Ohio for four years. He also participated in Concert Band, Jazz Ensemble, Brass Choir, and several small chamber ensembles. Bob studied trumpet under the tutelage of Ernie Bastin, Professor of Trumpet at OU. He considers Mr. Bastin to be one of the most influential people in his life, as well as Mr. Gene “Coach” Thrailkill (he only had Gene as a director his freshman year, the next year Gene went on to be the long time director of the "other OU" Oklahoma University), Dr. Thomas Lee; and Mr. Ronald Socciarelli. Bob completed his undergraduate studies, graduating with a Bachelor of Music degree in June 1974. Throughout his teaching career, he attended several workshops at Ohio State University, Bowling Green State University, and The University of Akron. Bob also took many graduate level courses at Miami University over the course of several summer breaks during his teaching career.
Upon graduating from Ohio University in June 1974, Bob began his teaching career in August 1974. He was the band director of the Wolf Creek Local School District, Waterford, OH until July 1979, when it became necessary for him to return home to Hamilton due to an illness in his family. In August 1984, Bob was hired as the band director of the Franklin High School Band. While at Franklin, Bob also taught 5th and 6th grade bands at three of the elementary schools in the Franklin City School District and was also the band director at Franklin Junior High School for one year. In July 1986, Bob was named as the band director for the Mariemont City School District, a position he held until his retirement from teaching in June 2007. While teaching at Mariemont for 21 years, Bob was the band director for grade 5 through grade 12.
Bob has kept busy during his retirement, teaching private music lessons on all brass instruments at Mehas Music in Hamilton. He was also a member of the Southwestern Ohio Symphonic Band until the Covid 19 virus forced the band to cease operations. While the SOSB has resumed normal operations, Bob has not been able to resume playing in the band due to health and mobility issues. He hopes these issues will be resolved soon so that he can return to the band."

Here is Charlie Pagnard with his Cedarville University trumpet student Brady Miller after I was able to free up his stuck tuning slide while they waited on his Bach Strad Trumpet.

Here is Tim O'Connor when he was dropping his Bach Strad Trumpet off for a chemical cleaning servicing.
I've known Tim for a long time, and has been a long time Hauer Music customer. Tim took trumpet lessons here at Hauer's from Basil Drew, and went to Alter High School (class of 1981) where he has David Leppla and George Koenig as band directors. He is still going strong after all of these years. I asked him to send a bit of his musical background and here is what he sent me:

"Tim’s musical journey began at Alter H.S. And continued on as part of The Ohio State University Marching Band (TOSUMB). Post retirement a few years ago Tim got heavily involved in music in his new Home Town of Southport, NC. Tim currently is the president of Brunswick Bands inc. A local non profit the strives to provide resources ( instruments, fiscal support, college scholarships and more) to any student in Brunswick Country that finds the fiscal burdens of music a deterrent. Tim is active in the local music scene participating in many various groups. From late concert ensembles, big bands, open mic nights and supporting the local military and the USS North Carolina at military honor events. Tim was recently picked up by a local rock band Lunasea as their lead. Tim and wife Karen frequently visit Ohio and family and friends. Occasionally participating in TBDBITL Alumni band. And always brings his Bachs (‘81 Cornet & ‘25 trumpet ) to Gary to “clean” them up ! “ I really appreciate the care, time and expertise that Gary has taking care of my brass instruments “

Thank you Tim! It was great seeing you again, and was happy to get this Bach Trumpet back into great shape again!

Here are some before and after pictures of a Wessex Euphonium that the bell was badly damaged. On this one the bell needed to be unsoldered to be able to access all of the damage.
The Wessex brand has been around since 2011 . The company was founded by Jonathan Hodgetts, using instruments provided by selected factories in China, made to their specifications . These are budget priced instruments.

Here is Krista Caley after I did a little work on her Yamaha YHR667 Double Horn.
Krista is a local player growing up in Farmerville Ohio, going to Valley View High School. I've known her for a long time. Her family went to the same church we went to growing up, and she is a distant cousin of mine!
I asked her to send a bit about herself, and here is what she sent me:
"I was a student of Richard Chenoweth at the University of Dayton. After a bit of a break from playing after college, I got back to playing in community groups around town and have been busy playing ever since . I’m currently playing with the Yellow Spring Chamber Orchestra, Sinclair Wind Symphony , and Il Vento Woodwind Quintet. And i sub regularly with Miami Valley Symphony Orchestra."
