One last frame, one last spin. 14 medium supers, 126 frames of honey and thatā€™s a wrap on 2026 honey harvest. I had 7 colonies this year that produced a little over 500 pounds of honey. A pretty successful summer season. Now itā€™s time to start winter preparations. A successful winter starts in August making sure the hives are queen right, mite counts are low, and they have the food stores they need to make it through winter.

The bees donā€™t like the humidity either. Easier to keep the hive cool with less bodies inside.

The first two supers had such a light sweet honey. Itā€™s my favorite honey Iā€™ve ever tried. I think it must be mainly clover honey. Iā€™m not sure if all the other supers will be similar or not. If you want to try it let me know today Iā€™ll get some bottled up before I add more in with it.

Got the first honey supers pulled and started spinning the first frames out this afternoon. I have an 18 frame hillco extractor that works great for getting honey extracted. Filled a five gallon bucket on the first 18 frames. 6 or 7 more rounds to run through the extractor this weekend. Seems to be a lighter sweeter honey this year itā€™s delicious!

I was a couple weeks late getting my splits done this year. The bees already had swarm cells made and spilling out of 3 deep boxes. Made 7 splits off of 2 hives. Still have a few more to get done.
