Good morning! ☀️🌸 My Friday morning started out with an early morning trip to the gardens to cut a few stems. Came back to the house and fixed up a small arrangement and a cup of coffee-just for myself to enjoy before hopping on my computer for the day.

🌸 The Good...
Flowers blooming. The kind of view everyone imagines when they think of a flower farm.

🌿 The Bad...
A mountain of w**ds. Hours spent pulling, hauling.

😂 The Ugly...
The beds we haven't made it to yet... because sometimes (well..a lot of times) the w**ds win (at least for a little while).

Weather, w**ds, dirty shoes, sore backs, changing plans...and a never-ending list of things that need to be done. Some days are picture-perfect. Other days are a figurative and a literal hot mess.

One thing I've learned over the last few years is that growing cut flowers isn't gardening. It's farming.

And choosing to grow flowers without herbicides, pesticides, or plastic w**d barriers adds another level of chaos to the mix. It's slower, it's messier, and yes...sometimes the w**ds get ahead of us.
But that's a trade-off we're willing to make.

So if you've ever wondered what goes into those bouquets, this is part of the story too. Not just the blooms—but the work behind them.

It's not always pretty, but it's honest. And honestly? I wouldn't trade it for anything. 💚

Comparison is a thief... even in the flower field.

This year, I watched other flower growers online sharing their trays of zinnia plugs they had started indoors back in March, ready to plant out in May. Meanwhile, life was happening over here—work, weather, family, and everything in between.

I caught myself comparing. I started feeling perpetually behind.

Then one day I decided... screw it.
I grabbed my zinnia seeds and scattered them directly into the garden rows—well past the "ideal" planting window. No plug trays. No greenhouse. No perfectly spaced rows and plants. Just seeds, soil...and a little bit of hope.

Are they blooming three or more weeks later than many other growers? Yep.

Did I grow fewer than last year? Also yes.

But look at them now. They're blooming.
And honestly... they're still beautiful. (Just a little later.)

Sometimes we need the reminder that progress doesn't have to look like everyone else's timeline. Whether it's flowers, a business, or life itself, it's okay if your season looks different.

A little progress report… 🌸

The first couple of years were mostly about learning how to grow the flowers. This year, I’ve been focusing more on putting myself out there, sharing what we’re growing, and practicing my arranging skills.

I put this bouquet together quickly this morning, and was pleasantly surprised by how easily it came together. Things are starting to feel more balanced, and less tight, and color pallets seem to be coming to me more easily.

Making bouquets every week really does make a difference. Slowly, but surely, I’m seeing my skills improve —and that’s feels pretty exciting. ✨

☀️We are into the thick of summer.

Our spring was busy and I did not get many of my sun-loving annuals planted when I would have liked. While we often believe that at this point in the summer the planting window has passed, there are still a few flowers that can be sewn for blooms yet this fall.

🌻Sunflowers are quick to germinate and grow, and bloom within 50-60 days. They aren’t very fussy -they don’t need much water or even good soil to grow. We’ve been planting different sunflower varieties each week for the past couple weeks. The 🌱seedlings in this video are already two weeks old!

With a little love ❤️ and an equal amount of luck (keeping the 🐇🦌critters away), we should have blooms at the end of August and into September!🤞🌻
