PSA- be aware of what gets slapped with the latest greenwashing label of ‘native’ plants.
This Salvia nemerosa has a humongous ‘north American native’ plant label all over it at our local Costco. They are a decent pollinator plant but are native to Europe and Central Asia. All the more reason to shop local with plants that are grown and raised in our climate. Big box stores just want you to make an impulse buy.

Best part of July- Vitex season. 💜
Otherwise known as Chaste tree- these large shrubs are covered in purple spikes of bloom for at least 6 weeks and attract every kind of bee, butterfly, and hummer around. They don’t mind heat or drought a bit. ☀️
And totally deer resistant with their sharply scented leaves.

We finally have some beautiful Rhamnus tomentella for sale. Otherwise known as Frangula californica ssp. tomentella this blue leafed CA native is a great evergreen shrub for southern Oregon. Coffeeberries are stupendous for pollinators- from tiny bees to moths and caterpillars. 🐝
And they make the most gorgeous berries ranging from a limey green to salmon. We have had ours for at least a decade and is about 8’ tall and very drought tolerant.
