Fat Mountain Farms began as a hobby for a father and his three daughters. Our farm started with just a few pet goats and eventually grew into a herd of katahdin lambs, cows, and chickens. The early chapters of Fat Mountain Farms showed us that there is a steep learning curve on the traditional ways of livestock stewardship. As the years have passed we have continued on that learning curve and have added additional team members to our family. One of the lessons we have since learned is that traditional agricultural practices have manipulated the growing cycles of crops and livestock far outside of the natural order. Today, Fat Mountain Farms is actively working to heal our land and strengthen our herd through holistic and sustainable practices. Our team believes God?s way is the best way of stewarding. By focusing on returning nutrients to our pasture and keeping our livestock in a happy environment Fat Mountain Farms is able to provide 100% grass raised and finished meat cuts to the local community.

If you told me 10 years ago that I’d be raising 1,000 chickens on pasture, moving them every single day, and selling meats directly to customers, I would’ve laughed.

But life is weird like that.

And sometimes the weirder it is, the most beautiful it can be!

This is the reality of farming.

Today started at 2:00 a.m.

A 10–12 hour day of loading 80–100 lb chicken crates, driving four hours, unloading, and then heading straight back to the farm for the next 6 hour shift of work…

I’m not sharing this to prove how “hard” I work.

In fact, I think social media often shows the most beautiful parts of farming—the sunsets, the green pastures, the baby animals, and the finished product.

What it doesn’t show is that farming is 90% repetitive, physically demanding, and often exhausting work.

There are days when your body is tired, your mind is tired, and the farm still needs you.

Animals still need to be fed.
Fences still need fixing.
Customers are counting on you.
Tomorrow’s work is already waiting.

That constant responsibility can wear you down. I’ve felt it myself.

But somehow, you wake up and do it again.

Because there’s something bigger than the hard days.

It’s knowing the families we serve trust us to feed them well. It’s caring for the land so it’s healthier for the next generation. It’s building something that actually matters.

To every farmer grinding through another long day—you are seen.

And to anyone dreaming of becoming a farmer: know that it’s one of the hardest careers you’ll ever choose.

But if you love it...

It’s also one of the most rewarding.
