Two years ago, I was diagnosed with stage IV oral cancer at Johns Hopkins. I had previously gone through about 20 surgeries for oral cancer since 2009. This time was different as it was very large and fast growing. About two months after the 13 hour surgery another tumor popped up quickly. I didn’t know what the future held. I had 4 rounds of chemotherapy, then began immunotherapy every other week with Cetuximab and Keytruda every six weeks. I didn’t know if I would make it to 75! But here I am! Still doing okay so far, PTL.

I was able to drink an ensure for lunch today. The swelling in my throat has gone down enough to allow me to swallow liquids. First time since my surgery Dec 14, seventeen days ago. This was my 15th surgery in my mouth for cancer since 2010. Still can't close my mouth completely and flap in my cheek will need at least another 4 months for the swelling to go down. I want to be able to consistently drink liquids for nourishment so I can get the NG tube out on Monday when I see Dr. Blanco. One step at a time.
I am planning to try to return to tuning in February.
