Here’s the sucky thing about allergies. They can show up suddenly, like a light switch flipping.

I was reminded of that this week. After nearly finishing a course of antibiotics and steroids for chronic sinusitis, I woke up with an intense itch from head to toe and some chest tightness. I initially took Zyrtec, which helped mute the symptoms, but by the next morning my hives were more pronounced.

We decided to stop the meds and use the Epi.

I’m really glad we did for a couple of reasons. It was the right call given the symptoms. It also gave us, as parents, firsthand experience with what using Epi actually feels like.

It also ended up being a low-risk moment for Anya to observe. After eight years of managing her food allergies, it reinforced how quickly things can escalate and how important it is to act fast when something feels off.

I’m doing well and will continue to monitor my symptoms.

Thankful for the added protection and comfort that’s coming slowly but surely through seven+ years of SLIT treatment via . Seeing Anya enjoy what so many of us take for granted is heartwarming! 🤗 😋 🥰

The rollercoaster of emotions tied to the daunting annual skin prick test appointment:
😀😟😏😟😬🤗😁

Our takeaways:
- Distractions and daddy jokes help, but only temporarily 🤣
- The itching after is worse than the pricks themselves. Note: bring a small fan, it’s better than daddy blowing on Anya’s back for 20 minutes! 😩
- Seven years later, we’re turning the corner. Slightly! “It wasn’t as scary as it seems” 👻

Super proud of Anya big girl! Blood draws at the allergist used to be scary and they’re a breeze. 🙏🏽 Six tubes for IgE and basophil activation testing secured. We were in and out in less than ten minutes. 🤗.

Thank you Mrs. Rosa. We’ve come a long way from when there was crying, kicking, and screaming during these appointments. 🥰

Hi everyone! ❤️ Four years ago, I wrote and self-published “Epi, You’re My Best Friend,” and my talented friend brought it to life with his wonderful illustrations. This simple board book helps little ones with life-threatening food allergies feel more comfortable with their EpiPen from an early age. Freshly made holiday-themed “egg bite” muffins for Anya. In addition to her SLIT drops, we use these to ensure a have a small amount of baked egg in her diet on a consistent basis. Despite her numbers looking great for egg, she doesn’t do well with egg unless it’s baked long enough. These will work for now! And one day, she’ll hopefully be able to have ’s original chocolate chip cookies which she’s modified to be eggless. 🥰😋
