This Friday! June 19! Come celebrate Juneteenth with The Gathering Place! We've got two local all-star Black-owned businesses locked in to help us make Friday special: The Flying Pierogi Delicatessen and Tonya's Cookies!

We'll have food from The Flying Pierogi right outside next to the patio, and we've produced a variety of sweet treats from Tonya's Bake Shop that we'll have upstairs at the bar.

Both offerings will be at no cost, to anyone, while supplies last, but patrons are encouraged to pay what they can — and every cent of what people pay goes straight to the respective businesses. We’ll have payment methods available at each spot for those direct contributions and we look forward to seeing folks on Friday!

This Sunday, June 21, at 3pm is our specialty Ikoria draft!

Buy in is $35. Instead of packs, prizing will be given in the form of store credit. $10 per win for anyone with a winning record across three Swiss rounds, with a Foil Promo Pack for the top / undefeated player.

You’ll see signups for these Sunday MTG Drafts posted online over on the preregistration section of the TGP Online Shop, so you can snag a spot in advance!

Prerelease weekend for the next MTG set featuring Earth's Mightiest Heroes and some of Marvel Comics' biggest names is almost here!

The Gathering Place will have sealed tournaments all weekend, product in stock and on shelves, and we're ready to be your go-to location for launching into a set full of famous names, legacy characters, deep cuts and some potentially meta-shaping cards. See you there!

MTG Modern RCQ High Roller Tournament “Ocelot”
Saturday, July 11, 12:00 p.m.

July is all about Modern! Cash tourneys, RCQs, the works! Starting strong and early, the first Modern event is an RCQ with some *killer* prizing!

Entry is $30 per player, entry contributes to the prize pool, so more players means bigger payouts. Extra prizing comes in the form of the special and shiny Store Champ full-art Ocelot Pride, truly some extra-valuable and juicy prizing!

While Legacy and Vintage are both full-proxy friendly at TGP, Modern is zero proxy. All cards are required to be the real deal.

Chapel Hill's favorite local game store and 30-tap bar! Beer, wine, mead, sake, and non-alcoholic options aplenty, plus a wall of board games to borrow and North Carolina's finest glass showcase of Magic: The Gathering goodies + grails!

Come out every Wednesday for Gudam Locals!

Bandai TCGs have another winner with the Gundam card game! If you’ve played One Piece, some elements may be familiar, but the Gundam TCG plays out a little differently than you might expect. Pilots, Mobile Suits, shields, bases, it’s fast and furious mech-battling action! Gundam Locals at TGP are every Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. — $10 buy in, all entry back in the prize pool, pack prizing to Top 3 (based on attendance) number of rounds based on attendance — also, promos for participation and tournament winner!

The Commander League(s) at TGP have proven to be a great way to established MTG players and relatively new Planeswalkers alike to build decks, play games and, most importantly, have fun!

Long story short, you're marooned on an island, and you've got to scavenge cards and play MTG with your friends, opponents and rivals to survive, and to win! It's thematic, it's weird, it's wild, and we hope you join us on this particular tropical island for the Summer League.

Join us for Sorcery Locals every Wednesday!

Sorcery: Contested Realm is a strategy-based TCG with a board constructed more akin to chess than a traditional TCG battlefield. Placement matters, along with resources and spells, and it’s a throwback to early card games in more ways than one! Gorgeous traditional art, wild chases, one type of booster pack, Sorcery is a great time for anyone who looks at these cards and goes “yeah, I be that game is pretty cool” — which, to be fair, is everybody!

Sorcery locals at TGP are every Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. and have a strong community organization component. Constructed or Draft, depending on what the people want and what’s in stock at the shop. $15 entry for Constructed, $25 entry for draft, pack-per-win prizing and bonus promos and prizes as we have them and depending on attendance.
