If you’ve fallen in love with statement pieces like ground meadows, arches, aisle arrangements, or floral pillars, don’t assume they’re only for one part of your wedding day.

One of the best ways to maximize your floral budget is by choosing designs that can be repurposed throughout your celebration. A ground meadow used for your ceremony can later be moved to your sweetheart table, cake display, head table, fireplace, or reception entrance. There’s something so special about watching peonies open 🌸
One of the biggest questions we get is:
“Why don’t my peonies look fully bloomed yet?”

Peonies actually go through several stages — and each one has its own beauty AND vase life.

🌿 Stage 1: Tight Bud
This is when they first arrive from the grower. The bud feels firm and closed with little color showing.
⏳ Vase life: 7–10+ days
✨ Best for: Longest lasting arrangements & events ahead of time

🌸 Stage 2: Marshmallow Stage
The bud starts softening and feels similar to a marshmallow when gently squeezed. You’ll start seeing more color and petals loosening.
⏳ Vase life: About 5–7 days
✨ Best for: Buying now but wanting them to open soon

🌷 Stage 3: Half Open Bloom
The petals begin unfolding and you start getting that fluffy peony look everyone loves.
⏳ Vase life: Around 3–5 days
✨ Best for: Immediate enjoyment and photos

☁️ Stage 4: Full Bloom
This is the huge, romantic, ruffly peony everyone dreams about. They smell incredible and make the biggest statement.
⏳ Vase life: 1–3 days
✨ Best for: Maximum impact moments

💧 How to Make Peonies Last Longer in a Vase:
• Use a CLEAN vase
• Change the water every 1–2 days
• Re-cut stems at an angle every few days
• Keep them away from direct sunlight & heat
• Remove leaves below the waterline
• Add flower food if you have it
• If they start opening too fast, move them to a cooler room overnight

🌸 Fun fact:
Peonies can go from tight bud to fully open VERY quickly depending on room temperature. Warm rooms = faster blooms. Cool rooms = slower blooms.

Honestly, every stage is beautiful in its own way 🤍
Some people love the perfect little bud… and others wait all year for that giant fluffy bloom.

This week is going to be a busy one at Falling Petal 🌸✨

Between multiple weddings and a full schedule of prom bouquets heading out this weekend, we have very limited availability for additional day-to-day orders. We are still accepting a small number of orders while availability lasts, so please message or call us as soon as possible if you’re needing something!

Summer Hours ☀️

As we head into summer, we’ll be adjusting our shop hours slightly to spend a little extra time with family while still creating florals for all of your special moments.

While our storefront hours may be shortened, we will still have availability for orders outside of those hours by phone. If you’re needing an arrangement, funeral flowers, event florals, or pickups outside of posted hours, please don’t hesitate to call or message us — we’ll always do our best to accommodate when possible.
