It’s hard to believe our very first Willa Ever After has already come to an end. After a weekend filled with books, readers, laughter, and more than a little chaos, I wanted to take a moment to acknowledge the many people who deserve recognition for making this event possible.
First, I have to recognize Constructive Solutions, who worked day and night to bring my vision of Miss Willa’s Bookshop to life. What started as an idea became something real because of the incredible amount of work they put into every detail.
And then there’s Malissa, who never flinches (okay, maybe a little) when I say, “I have an idea.” Willa Ever After simply would not have happened without the countless hours she spent planning, organizing, problem-solving, and somehow keeping all the moving pieces moving.
To my MWB staff—you were incredible. You worked long hours alongside us getting the store ready, jumped in wherever you were needed, and somehow never let your exhaustion show. I’m incredibly grateful to have such an amazing group of people representing Miss Willa’s.
I’m equally grateful for the volunteers who showed up simply because they love books and wanted to be part of the weekend. You gave your time and energy to help us welcome hundreds of readers, and this event could not have happened without you.
And, of course, none of this would exist without the readers. You traveled from all over the United States to spend the weekend with us in Charles Town, and seeing so many of you here—meeting authors, discovering books, exploring the town, and connecting with one another—was everything I hoped Willa Ever After could be.
When I first imagined this event, I knew I wanted it to extend beyond the walls of Miss Willa’s Bookshop. I wanted the community and businesses of Charles Town to be part of it because this bookstore has never existed on its own. It exists within a community that has welcomed and supported us from the beginning, and I wanted Willa Ever After to celebrate that community.
So, to the City of Charles Town and Jefferson County, to every business that participated or opened its doors to our attendees, and to the residents who welcomed our visitors and remained patient with the extra traffic and activity throughout the weekend—you helped make our first Willa Ever After something truly special.
And to everyone who had a hand in this weekend, whether your part was big, small, visible, or behind the scenes: I hope you know how much it mattered.
