I have always believed that our words carry power. Every time we say, “I’m broken,” “I’m exhausted,” or “I’m not enough,” we’re reinforcing a story that our mind and body hear over and over again. On the other hand, when we begin saying, “I am healing,” “I am growing stronger,” or “I am becoming who I was meant to be,” we shift our focus toward possibility instead of limitation.

I don’t believe positive words alone can cure illness or erase life’s hardships, but I do believe our mindset matters. Hope reduces fear. Gratitude softens anxiety. Belief gives us the strength to keep taking the next step, even when the path is difficult.

Our bodies are incredibly intelligent. They are constantly repairing, adapting, and working to keep us alive. When we support that process with kindness, rest, healthy choices, and words that build us up instead of tear us down, we create an environment where healing has the best chance to flourish.

Speak to yourself as you would someone you love. Your mind is always listening, your spirit is always responding, and every word you choose plants a seed. Make sure you’re planting the ones you want to grow.

Lughnasadh is a Gaelic festival marking the beginning of the autumn harvest season. Historically, it was widely observed throughout Ireland, Scotland, and the Isle of Man. Originally, it was held on 1 August, or about halfway between the summer solstice and autumn equinox (or the first full moon in Leo), and corresponds to other European harvests such as the Welsh Gwyl Awst and the English Lammas

The festival of Lughnasadh itself is named after the god Lugh. It involved great gatherings that included religious ceremonies, ritual athletic contests (such as the Tailtenne Games), feasting, match-making and trading. There were also visits to local holy wells.
Historically, other religious rites included an offering of the first of the corn, a feast of the new food and of bilberries, the sacrifice of a bull, and a ritual dance-play would have taken place on top of hills and mountains. Much of this - sans the sacrifice of an actual bull - can be adapted to modern practices and rituals today.

On or around 1 August, the ancient Gaelic world marked Lughnasadh, a seasonal festival celebrating the beginning of the harvest.

It stood between the summer solstice and autumn equinox, when the land began revealing the first results of months of labour. Grain was ripening, berries were gathered, and communities faced a powerful threshold: abundance had begun, yet the full harvest was not guaranteed.

Lughnasadh was named after Lugh, the brilliant Irish god associated with skill, sovereignty, craftsmanship, victory and mastery. His name was linked with great assemblies, competitions, trading, feasting and communal celebration. Early traditions also connected the festival with funeral games held in honour of Lugh’s foster mother, Tailtiu, who was said to have died after clearing the land so it could be cultivated.

This made Lughnasadh more than a celebration of food.

It honoured sacrifice.

The harvest existed only through labour: the breaking of soil, planting of seed, endurance of uncertain weather and patience through the growing season. The first fruits were therefore treated with gratitude, reverence and care.

Historic Lughnasadh gatherings could include hill climbing, athletic contests, horse racing, matchmaking, markets, feasting and offerings of the season’s first produce. People gathered not only to celebrate what had grown, but to strengthen the bonds that helped communities survive.

For modern witches and pagans, Lughnasadh can be observed through baking bread, sharing seasonal food, leaving a respectful offering, decorating with grain, giving thanks to the land or reflecting upon the personal seeds planted earlier in the year.
