Larry Chen took the win at Hagerty’s first-ever RADwood Build Challenge with his JTCC-inspired 1996 Honda Accord SiR.

First unveiled at TYPE S Auto Night Lights during Formula DRIFT Long Beach 2, the build features a 7-ELEVEn racing livery, turbocharged H22, and custom forged wheels recreated by Premiersllc, the Japanese shop where Larry purchased the car, to resemble the original JTCC racing wheels.

Competing against Mike Burroughs Lotus Esprit and Vin Anatra’s Chevy dually, Larry secured the victory through in-person fan voting at RADwood NorCal. The win earned him $50,000, plus another $50,000 for his chosen charity, the RPM Foundation | Restoration, Preservation & Mentorship 🛞

Honda HRC is bringing motorsport-inspired performance parts to the streets in March 2027, including two new forged wheel designs.

For the Civic Type R and Integra Type S, HRC partnered with Italy’s 2elle.engineering srl, supplier of wheels for the championship-winning Acura ARX-06 race car. The new 19x10 forged-aluminum wheels weigh just 20.8 lbs each, 5.5 lbs lighter than factory, with a thin-spoke design inspired by the ARX-06.

For the Passport and Pilot, HRC teamed up with Titan 7, a supplier for its Pikes Peak racing efforts. These 18x8 off-road wheels are constructed from aircraft-grade 6061 aluminum, forged under 10,000 tons of pressure, and offer 100 kg more load capacity per wheel than factory.

The parts lineup also includes a Borla Performance exhaust system, with additional performance upgrades in development. Sales begin March 2027 through Honda and Acura dealerships 🛞

BFGoodrich Tires Scorcher T/A tires arrived in 1999 with colored tread stripes named Raging Red, Blazing Blue and Screaming Yellow. They later offered 393 possible color combinations through custom ordering.

The tire’s colored burnout marks raised concerns among officials about potential misuse for marking gang territory. San Francisco urged BFGoodrich to stop sales and considered a local ban. BFGoodrich emphasized that the tires were designed for personalization and did not condone reckless or illegal driving.

The colored tread required upkeep to maintain its appearance, and at around $225 per tire (roughly $440 in today’s dollars), the customization came at a premium. Though they eventually left the market, Scorchers remain a memorable piece of early-2000s car culture 🛞
