25 years ago, the news broke and we watched in horror with honestly not even the faintest understanding of what was happening or how much that day would change our country.
2,977 victims.
2,977 lives taken.
2,977 families forever changed.
For those of us who were old enough to remember that day, there are moments that still feel frozen in time. The confusion, the fear, the images on the television, and the silence as we tried to understand something that felt impossible.
But I also remember what came after.
I remember the American flags everywhere. I remember people coming together. I remember a country that, even in unimaginable grief, stood united. We weren't strangers. We were Americans.
25 years later, an entire generation has grown up knowing September 11th only through photographs, videos, history books, and the stories we tell them. That makes remembering even more important.
Remember the 2,977 innocent lives that were taken.
Remember the first responders who ran toward danger while everyone else was trying to escape.
Remember the families who carried, and still carry, a loss that never simply goes away.
Remember the courage, the sacrifice, and the unity that followed.
25 years later, we still remember.
And we will never forget.
