When Make Welcome Sewing School started over 9 years ago, the leadership team decided we should design bags that could be sold so our refugee students could begin to earn money. We floated different ideas. And then...we discovered the power of the upcycled rice bag!

Our first rice bag purses were almost entirely from donated materials and gave opportunity to show our students how even overlooked textiles in their homes can be a part of the design process.
