Rise Up Consignments, a women’s business casual and corporate consignment boutique in Charlotte, is hiring a part-time Retail Associate. This role is perfect for someone who loves fashion, cares about people, and wants to be part of a community-focused small business.

Position: Retail Associate
Pay: $15/hour
Hours: 10–15 hours per week
Availability Required: Tuesday and Thursday afternoons/evenings

What you’ll do:
- Provide excellent customer service and create a welcoming, professional shopping experience
- Assist customers with styling, outfit selection, and fitting room needs
- Help maintain a clean, organized, and visually appealing sales floor
- Run the register and handle basic closing tasks as needed

What we’re looking for:
- Excellent customer service skills and a friendly, positive attitude
- Strong work ethic and reliability
- Ability to work independently and stay productive without constant supervision
- Interest in women’s business and professional fashion is a plus

Rise Up Voices Book Club is here.

I’m launching a new monthly book club at Rise Up Consignments that centers stories by minority authors and the real lives of women figuring out work, family, money, and identity—on a budget and under pressure.

Our first pick is “Maame” by Jessica George, a novel about Maddie, a young British Ghanaian woman who is the “responsible one” in her family—caring for her father, juggling a job she doesn’t love, and trying to finally decide what she wants from her life. It’s funny, tender, and painfully relatable if you’ve ever felt like everyone else got the rulebook for adulthood and you’re just winging it.

We’ll use Maame’s story to talk about:
Being the “strong one” or caretaker in your family
First‑gen and early‑career pressure to have it all together
How our clothes and presentation help (or sometimes hide) who we’re becoming

Event details:
What: Rise Up Voices Book Club – “Maame”
When: Monday June 22nd, 6-7:30 p.m.
Where: Rise Up Consignments, 1001 E. W.T. Harris Blvd., Suite O (across from UNC Charlotte)
Who: Anyone who wants to read and discuss stories by women of color and other marginalized voices in a welcoming, judgment‑free space.
What to expect:
15 minutes to arrive, grab a snack, and browse a curated “Maame‑inspired” rack
60 minutes of guided conversation about the book and our own stories
15 minutes of optional styling time with a special book club–only discount on any outfit you build that night
You don’t have to finish the book to come; show up as you are. Library copies, audiobooks, e‑books—however you read is welcome.
