Yesterday was a fun adventure and a reminder that you never know what opportunity is hiding behind the next conversation.
About a month ago I met Chef Joseph, the owner of Fratelli in Baxter Village. He heard my pitch about Cratefull and our crate-based logistics system and asked me a question:
“Would you ever consider helping me sell some commercial kitchen equipment?”
When he told me one of the items was a 60-quart commercial stand mixer, my interest was definitely piqued. Was it exactly what Cratefull was built around? Not really. Was I curious enough to take it on? Absolutely.
We met, looked everything over, and decided I would list it when he got back from an upcoming trip.
Sunday came around, I posted it online…and then nothing. Not a single bite for the first 24 hours.
Then early Tuesday morning, I got a message from someone asking if they could pay cash and pick it up that day.
Game on.
I called Chef Joseph, and we made plans to meet at the storage unit around 1:30 to clean everything up and get ready for the buyer.
Of course, with any sale like this, there’s always that thought in the back of your mind…
“Are they actually coming?”
Luckily, about two minutes after our scheduled time, my phone rang. The buyer’s two guys were at the gate ready to pick it up.
That’s when we realized we might have underestimated the challenge ahead of us.
Moving a 900+ pound commercial mixer is no joke.
But before we could even start, the sky opened up and absolutely poured for about 20 minutes. So there we were…four guys standing around a giant mixer, waiting out the rain and coming up with a plan.
Once it cleared, it was time to get to work.
Through a careful combination of rocking, sliding, pushing, and a lot of patience, we slowly worked it onto the trailer.
The tricky thing about a 900-pound stand mixer is that it is incredibly top-heavy. If that thing decides it is going over, you just get out of the way — because four guys are not stopping it.
Thankfully, with some careful maneuvering, we got it loaded, strapped down, and headed off to its new home.
And just like that, it became the biggest sale in Cratefull’s short history.
So what does a giant commercial mixer have to do with filling crates full of sellable items?
Everything.
Because at the end of the day, Cratefull is about helping people unlock value from things they no longer need. Sometimes it’s a crate full of household items. Sometimes it’s a 900-pound piece of restaurant equipment.
You never know what might sell — and sometimes the things you think will sit around forever are the things that move the fastest.
Have items taking up space that still have value?
Fill a crate. Let us handle the sorting, listing, selling, and logistics.
You might be surprised what your “stuff” is actually worth.
