I was up on the backyard hill looking for some Giant Puffball mushrooms and found some of the BIGGEST ones I’ve ever seen!

What a great surprise!

I’m wondering how many other Minnesota gardeners out there have found any big Puffballs this year? I’d love to hear about them!

We enjoy cooking them when they’re safe to eat, and we only consider eating them when they’ve been properly identified and are completely solid and pure white inside, like a marshmallows.
Sauteed in butter, cut thin 1/4 inch with butter, over a steak, life is good.
You never know what you’re going to find when you’re out exploring your own backyard!
So, who else has found some regular or GIANT puffballs this year? Share your stories and pictures if you can.

To the candidates running for Mayor of Chaska, Taylor Hubbard and
David Meissner

• As a small business, what will you do to help us?
• There is so much opportunity for Downtown Chaska, especially when it comes to supporting the small, locally owned businesses that make our community unique.
• Look at Excelsior. They charge for parking, yet people still come because they have created a destination. Chaska has so much free parking, a beautiful commons area and a historic downtown. Excelsior has a beautiful park on the lake, but parking can be difficult. So what are we missing?
• We are located in the Uptown area, but we have always wanted to open a small location in Downtown Chaska. We believe there is tremendous potential there.
• Uptown Chaska can keep the Big Box Stores. That's not a bad thing — they serve a purpose. But Downtown Chaska should be about something different: small businesses, local restaurants, unique shops, community, and experiences you can't get at a big-box store.
• The Downtown Chaska Business Alliance has already done a lot, and I want to recognize that. They are working hard to promote Downtown and its businesses.
• But my question is:
• What more can we, the city, businesses and community, do to help them?
• How do we market Downtown Chaska so people from outside of Chaska think, "Let's go to Downtown Chaska today"?
• How do we get people to park, walk, shop, eat and spend time downtown?
• There should be FREE PARKING signs along 41 in the DT area
• How do we make sure the small businesses receive the same kind of support and attention that the large corporations seem to receive?
• As a small business owner, sometimes it feels like big corporations have a lot more resources and support behind them from the city of Chaska and Carver County, and honestly, it doesn't always seem fair.
• We don't expect special treatment. We just want to see local small businesses given a real opportunity to compete and succeed.
• There is so much potential in Downtown Chaska.
• What would YOU do to better market Downtown Chaska and support the small businesses there?
• I'd really like to hear some ideas.
Please don't say you want to talk to us, that excuse has been used whay to much, just answer our questions.

Your trees are thirsty. Like, really thirsty!

With the drought we’ve had, your trees may be showing stress like my Hydrangea tree, now as we are having some very dry days and heading into fall already, lots of trees, shrubs, and perennials are struggling. The good news? There are a few things you can do today that can make a real difference.

What you can do now:
• Water deeply and slowly, preferably in the morning.
• Add 2–4” of mulch to hold moisture and protect roots - just keep it away from the trunk.
• Watch for wilting, browning, scorched edges or early leaf drop.
• Give young and newly planted trees extra attention.
• Avoid unnecessary heavy pruning or added stress.

What you can do in the fall:

Keep watering during dry weather until the ground freezes, refresh mulch, clear grass and weeds from the root zone, and protect young trees going into winter.

A little attention now can make a huge difference next spring.
