September is one of the most important months of the year for cattle nutrition and it often gets overlooked because the pasture still looks green. 🌿🐄

Here's what's actually happening: as days shorten and temperatures drop, cool-season grasses begin to shift their nutrient profile. Some actually increase in digestibility this time of year, which means cattle can look like they're doing great while their energy and mineral intake is changing underneath the surface.

This is also the window to evaluate body condition before winter. Cows that go into cold weather thin are much harder and more expensive to recover in spring.

September is the time to adjust, not December. 🙌

Did you know? Piglets are born with almost no body fat and rely entirely on huddling together for warmth in their first weeks of life. 🐷

That instinct to pile up doesn't fully go away. Even older pigs will seek out warmth and company when temperatures drop, which is worth keeping in mind as September nights start to cool down.

Making sure your pigs have dry bedding and a draft-free space heading into fall is one of the simplest things you can do for their comfort and their feed conversion. ☺️
