“My side effects aren’t that bad… does that mean the chemo isn’t working?”

It’s the kind of thought that can quietly creep in during treatment.

The reassuring part: side effects aren’t a scorecard for how well chemotherapy is working. Having fewer or milder side effects doesn’t mean your treatment is doing less.

Your oncology team has other ways of checking how your treatment is working based on your individual situation.

So rather than trying to read into every good day or difficult day, bring the question with you to your next appointment:
“How will we know if my treatment is working?”

That conversation can give you information that your side effects simply can’t. 💛

Sometimes you’re tired. Sometimes you’re frustrated. Sometimes you just don’t feel positive and you shouldn’t have to pretend that you do.

Give yourself permission to feel what you feel, without trying to make it sound better for everyone else.

At 14, Eily Simmer was balancing school, friendships… and cancer treatment. 🎗️

She was diagnosed with Ewing sarcoma and went through fourteen rounds of chemotherapy and 31 days of proton radiation, an experience that changed so much of what being a teenager looked like.

For Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, we’re sharing Eily’s conversation with Kellie on A Happy Cancer Podcast.

They talk about what it was really like to face cancer so young. The fear, the friendships, the people who showed up, and the small gestures that meant more than people probably realized.

Eily also shares how her experience eventually led to Eliy's Sunflowers, a nonprofit she created to bring comfort and support to other young people going through cancer and their families. 🌻

There’s a lot to take in before your first chemo treatment.

Appointments can move quickly, there’s new information coming at you, and it’s completely normal to get home and suddenly remember something you meant to ask.

Having a few things written down beforehand can make those conversations a little easier.
