There is a book I couldn't buy new. Not in my own bookstore, not at the big chains. Everyone's shelves were empty.
I found it on Alibris. Secondhand, contested, still breathing. It was self-published in 2012, pulled, then self-released again in 2014, never vetted by a real publisher. And Collin Gosselin cites it himself in his memoir, In the Shadow of Eight.
He wrote the line that stays with me: I wasn't born to have my own life.
And no, he never claimed he met Dr. Phil. By his account, he was reacting to what he learned as an adult: the fake marriage bringing the network money, and Dr. Phil brought in to present the segment. Bruh, really.
Where was everybody? That is the question I put to my book club today, and I am putting it to you. Do you believe him? Is it memory or fact? Why now? And if you see something, say something. Mandatory reporters are protected when they act in good faith on evidence. Not when they protect a commodity for the corporate machine.
Notice the consistency between his story, his sister's story, and a nanny's. Notice who raised the alarm early.
Every house should have one book they had to hunt for. Mine sits on the shelf now.
This is my read, through a fraud-examination lens, not a verdict. Weekend Reads, delivered.
