Yesterday was such a busy day, I almost forgot to share what is going on...

We (and by We, I mean Tim) cleaned out all the dead watermelons, cantelopes, and weeds so we could assess and decide how we are going to plant all of the next sets of crops...

We couldnt decide, sooo.... I started some of everything that we can do from plugs and we will do what we do best and wing it!

But so many things hopefully coming.

If you can... and you own a garden... I highly recommend what we now call "tweaker activities"...
Neighbors going to work at 4:30-5:30am got to see 2 weirdos with black lights out in the garden this morning. We are probably odd to them already building chicken tractors in our front yard, mowing past dark, planting gardens everywhere... but I think that we pushed that crazy neighbor appearance it bit further with black light flashlights this morning...

But its a win!!

Got even the tiniest horn worms (so many, its too early to feed them to chickens to count), stink bugs, and grasshoppers off our plants. We also identified some areas of aphids that we can hopefully get some lady bugs to come take care of as they are truly the best at aphids eradication.

Busy morning.

So many things.

But I sometimes get questions at West Bend Farmers Market on how we keep the pests off our plants.

Short answer is we dont.

Longer answer is we pick them off by hand and feed them to our chickens.
We look for their iconic little poops (photo of little nuggets on the metal) and branches that have been defoliated. Then we snap that twig off and toss it in a bucket for our chickens. Chickens reward us for our efforts with eggs.
