Rootnote Landscape Solutions

Rootnote Landscape Solutions Designs: My designs are flowing works of art that combine color, texture, and geometric spacing to create living atmospheres of positive energy.

Rootnote Landscape Solutions is a Chesaning, MI based company that offers a dynamic combination of horticultural knowledge, well developed skill, and artistic creativity. Rootnote puts a professional touch on full landscape design and installation, custom plant and tree maintenance programs, seasonal mulching, plant and tree nursery sales, natural style field stone boulder walls, pollinator friend

ly habitats such as wildflower meadows and butterfly way stations, urban forestry, land management consulting, trail blazing, healing gardens, and above all else, creating positive energy environments on YOUR property. The effect is not limited to just eye catching aesthetics, as a fresh, well thought out, sustainable landscape significantly adds value to your home. Weather you are interested in selling or creating your own sanctuary, your personal satisfaction AND home value will skyrocket via the Rootnote touch! Horticultural Integrity and Sustainablilty: Rootnote is known for intriguing and inspiring plant choices that speak to the space that is available. Your ecosystem and micro-climate are carefully considered in choosing the species and placement so that all plantings will not only survive but thrive! I am pleased to share that my landscape and plantings have maintained a 94% overall survival rate in my 4 years of business. That is no exaggeration. Among my favorite success stories, is at Showboat Park in Chesaning, where I planted 120 12-14' trees in 2013. Those trees went thru the two worst winters in Michigan history, back to back, and I am proud to say that all 120 are doing extremely well, in part due to careful, detailed planting, AND my "custom tree care program." All that said, I do offer a 1 year warranty should anything falter. Painting With Plants: What is the best part of my job? Why do I love it so much? There are a lot of things that come to mind, but #1, I am an artist and my passion for creating beautiful landscapes allows me to express my artistic ambitions and abilities. When consulting with customers I often refer to "painting with plants". This phrase best describes what I do, as I balance deciduous and evergreen textures, with magnificent variations of bloom time and eye catching seasonal color that create a visually appealing "painting" from April thru November. That said, I do have plants and designs that feature winter appeal as well. Earth Smart Integrity: At the end of the day, creating oxygen through the beautification and maximization of plants is an unforseen dividend of my work that I take seriously. We literally "plant life" and with that comes a responsibility to not destroy life in the process. That is why Rootnote fertilizes and enhances with 100% organic options like Organibliss foliar spray, and OrganiSuperSoil. These are both fantastic, natural, plant based products that have led to my incredible survival rate, extended bloom time and overall health and vigor of Rootnote plantings. Better yet, these are both local Michigan made products, which I can sell to you directly if desired. In addition, we also prefer the manual practices of sod removal and weed pulling as opposed to the heavy use of glysophate laden Roundup and other ecologically irresponsible chemicals or unnecessary synthetic fertilizers. Rootnote has a commitment to the Earth and its future! Customer Satisfaction: Satisfying the customer is at the root of all that our team does. Your needs and wants are listened to and are formulated into landscapes that are not only breathtaking but also deliver all the basic functions that your home and family requires. Getting to know my customer and their preferences is a rewarding process that allows me to shepherd that customers satisfaction as they witness a staggering transformation from baseline to harmonious balance and beauty. It is a phenomenal feeling to rip out a tired, old, overgrown landscape, and replace it with a sensation station of horticultural zen that stimulates a positive emotion AND increases the value of your home or property. That is precisely our mission;)!

Follow up post from Zachโ€™s tomato haul! ๐Ÿ…๐Ÿ…๐Ÿ…๐Ÿ…๐Ÿ…๐Ÿ…๐Ÿ…๐Ÿ…๐Ÿ…๐Ÿ…๐Ÿ…๐Ÿ…๐Ÿ…๐Ÿ…๐Ÿ…

Our biggest canning session of the season landed us 25.5 quarts of delicious home grown tomato juice! So thrilled with our production last night. This puts us at a total of 58.5 quarts in the last 10 days.

Iโ€™m a homemade kind of lady and my winter cooking is vastly different than my griddle season cooking. Our girls are all looking forward to their preferred winter meals, theyโ€™re all huge fans of soups and pasta dishes!
These homegrown tomatoes will go into many meals. A few of the girls favorites are Pasta e Fagoli soup, Italian sausage white bean soup, vegetable soup & chili in their future. Throw in spaghetti, lasagna & Ziti for their favorite pasta dishes. Some odds & ends of stuffed peppers, jambalaya, chicken enchiladas(sauce) & the occasional sloppy joeโ€™s

Iโ€™m always on the look out for great tomato based recipes, if youโ€™re willing to share!

Itโ€™s that time friends! Our tomato plants are in mass production! Our master grower Zach has been bringing home bountiful baskets of Detroit, Kelloggs breakfast, carbon, Cherokee purple, orange banana, Sheboygan, and Valencia the last few days, my counter is full at the moment! Plus sent me a few pictures of fruit yet to be picked today. Weโ€™re currently at 33 quarts of already canned tomatoes. Iโ€™m guessing weโ€™ll be adding at least 2 dozen more by the end of the long weekend.

I also saw a post about Tomato Tar this morning and thought Iโ€™d share what I learned. And why I quite literally get a green thumb when I help Zach trim leaves. ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ

Tomato tar is the sticky, greenish-black or amber residue that rubs off on your hands, clothes, and tools when you handle, prune, or brush against tomato plants. This answers all my questions as to why they feel wet when my hand brushes again them.
The primary purpose of tomato tar is natural defense. It acts as a highly effective, built-in chemical and mechanical shield for the plant. The sticky texture physically traps small pests like aphids, thrips, and mites, stopping them from moving or feeding. This sticky barrier also helps shield open wounds from fungus or bacteria, where your branches break or where you trim off the lower leaves.

Weโ€™d love to know, how are your plants doing from the nursery this season? Hereโ€™s a look at ours! ๐Ÿ…โค๏ธ

Weโ€™ve been spending as much time as we can on our patio. My annual containers are looking extra lush after yesterdayโ€™s inch of rain and this is likely the best theyโ€™ll look going forward. As these cooler night time temperatures start showing up, our beloved annuals start slowing down a bit. I couldnโ€™t just choose a few, so you get them all! Enjoy our August grow-up!! ๐ŸŒธ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿผ๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿป๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿ˜

This was such an exciting find for me today. I mentioned how excited I am at least three times in the video. But honestly, these figs are beautiful! This is such a cool fruit to have in your Orchard! ๐Ÿคฉ
